What a place -- the Alhambra in Granada! It is a stunning collection of Islamic architectural decorations. And what a legacy of Muslim rule of Spain! This photo is from the Court of Myrtles, or the court of the pool. Here we can see all the three elements of Islamic art: Arabic calligraphy, and geometric and vegetal patterns. The calligraphy is the famous motto of Ibn Al-Ahmar and the Nasirid rulers. It reads "Wa la ghaliba il-Allah": There is no Victor except God.
This detail in stucco is from the Salon de Embajadores (Ambassador's Room) in the Alhambra in Granada, Spain. This is where the Muslim ruler received senior dignatories and is the grandest room with a high ceiling and stunningly decorated walls. It is also the most dimly lit room and as a result has preserved some of the colours.
