Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuPraise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa aalihi wa Sallam)Jazak'Allah for your valued question. Man has always sinned. Whether we are regular worshippers of Allah the Almighty, in the form of Salaah, Hajj, Zakaah, or whichever other worship, there is no guarantee that a person will not sin again. But these actions, should be a lesson for us, that keep us upon the Straight Path ( Sirat al Mustaqim). Hajj is an obligation which we owe to Allah the Almighty. Whether he accepts our efforts to perform it, or doesn't, is entirely up to Him. But it is our duty to fulfil this obligation. Once we have fulfilled it, then we are free of the obligation which we owed to Allah the Almighty. We perform Hajj, so that we can perform our obligation, and to gain the closeness/pleasure of Allah the Almighty, and also so that He may rid us of any sins that we may have committed in the past. Since the Hajj does not guarantee us that we shall not commit any sin in the future, it nevertheless is in some ways a recompense, for the sins that we may have committed in the past. Where a person commits sin after he has performed the Hajj, then if it is knowingly, then this is a much greater sin than he who has sinned, yet not performed Hajj, as stated above, the Hajj can be a recompense for his sins. Then there are the different category of sins. For example those that are major ( kaba'ir), and those that are minor ( sagha'ir). If one performs the Hajj with the intention that he is freed from all major ( kaba'ir) sins, then it would be foolish for him to revert back to his old ways, once he has performed the Hajj. The purpose of performing the Hajj should give him the opportunity to reflect upon his past, and make changes for the better, so that in future, he prevents from making the same mistakes. Whatever the intention for Hajj may be, everyone who spends the time, money and effort in performing it, has the primary purpose of freeing themselves of sin, whether they are major ( kaba'ir), or minor ( sagha'ir). The object of the fulfilment of Hajj is that he clears himself of reverting back to his old ways, in which case he was made to repent. If however he had reverted back to his old ways, then he has a much greater obligation of seeking forgiveness, as to sin, repent, to sin again, and repent again is to jest with Allah the Almighty, and who is more worst than the one who ridicules the Almighty? May Allah the Almighty give us all the tawfiq, to repent sincerely from our sins, and may He make our repent a lesson for us in the future, so that it prevents us from going back to our old sinning ways. (Amin)Wallahu A'lamu BiththawaabM. Waseem Ashrafi
