I had a choice between asking for forgiveness remembering Allah and a month of fasting and I voted a month of fasting. As asking forgiveness remembering Allah should be done every day 24/7 365 days of the year

Excellent thread respected sister
Ramadan, to me means making a conscious effort to make more time for praying, reading the Quran and also to improve my way of living in islamic measures. Which of some of these acts i shamefully dont do enough of, due to my work load and constant travel. However in this month i put everything else on hold and make time just to pray and read more.
As I always travel to Pakistan for ramadan, I truely aswell enjoy the social elemet of ramadan here. For hence almost every day there is an invitation to an iftar party in the neighbourhood, and then sometime at the end of the month I would arrange an iftar party at my house aswell before i leave for the UK. I love the spirit, the enthusiasm and the atmosphere and all the positive energy that flows in gatherings.
Also, there are many blessed momments which mean a lot to me, such as listening to azaan live and direct from the mosque, regualr wake up calls being announced at early hours for sehri, everyone talking about ramadan throughout the day, the rush of everyone trying to get home 10 minutes before iftaari , everyone sitting silently a minute before iftaar waiting for the loud siren to be played by the local mosque to let us know when we can eat.
Thats something I always look foraward to every year.......and thats what ramadan means to me

I voted for the option "thinking of the poor and needy" on the basis that i personally have a lot to be thankfull to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala for. Therefore going 12 hours or so, without food or water is not a problem because the poor and needy have it far worser than me.

This is an excellent thread sister Nomee, good way to get ideas.
Well I have voted for ‘Ask for forgiveness remember Allah ‘ as this is the blessed month, I have read that in the month of ramzaan shareef the angels say Ameen, Alhamdulillah this month is do blessed. Subhanallah
Even sleeping is counted as ibadat (reasonable)

A good poll sister nomee. Although I voted for the month of fasting, as fasting is the first thing I think of when I think of ramadhan, I would also combine the giving to the poor and needy and the asking for forgiveness and remembering Almighty Allah as well as praying more. Salaat and time spent in worship. Although we pray everyday, this month is spent all day and night in prayer and Zikr of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala and Praising His beloved Prophet Sayedina Muhammad Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam through Durood and Sallam.

salaams, i voted for thinking of the poor and needy, as essentially this is a big reason for the this blessed month. it is a time for us to think about how much we have and be thankful and also to think of those who are less fortunate. however the month of ramadhan also means alot more to me like the month of fasting, a month to reflect, to become closer to Allah swt, to seek forgiveness and concentrate more on namaaz, quran etc.

A good poll.
Actually it isnt any one thing that 'means Ramadhan' to me, its a combination of things already mentioned.
The obvious is fasting, but why do we fast, the answer has been given in several options, but in the end i chose to remember Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala by seeking forgiveness.
"Allah and His Angels pray on and Praise the Prophet. O believers! Send blessings to (and praise) him (alayhi asalam) And send to his utmost greetings."
May every blessing be upon thee, O sweet and beautiful Madani

Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu,
I found it hard just to choose one option as Ramadan means a combination of things. Ramadan essentially means 'a month of fasting' however, it also means to perform zikr-e-Ellahi more regularly, think of the needy and poor, do Qur'an tilawat etc.
I do think 'a month of fasting' will be the clear winner of this poll, so perhaps it would have been better to ask people "other than being the month of fasting, what does Ramadan mean to you?". An interesting poll nevertheless.

A good poll, but for me like others it s a combination of 4, the month of fasting which reminds us of the poor and how they feel, which again combines with the giving of Zakaat, which all relate to Zikr of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala, which then combines with praying Quran , namaz, repenting etc...

I like everything about ramzan and they all mean something to me, even the family togetherness is special in ramzan . I voted for fasting as that is the one thing we do only in ramzan besides nifl roza's on big days.
