Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu,Subhanallah! Some fantastic stories. Jazakallah to Sr. Ashiqe Rasool for adding to this thread some of the stories posted by Brothers from the Discuss Islam Board.
Here is a poem in the praise of Ghaus al-Azam Hadrat Shaykh Mohyuddin Abdul Qadir Jilani (Radi Allahu Anhu) by Imam Ahmed Raza Khan Barelvi:
1. O Ghaus! You hold a place of prominence.
Your feet are above the heads in eminence.
2. Whose looks can towards your head rise?
Mystics at best kiss your feet with their eyes.
3. Very brave are your protected men.
Your dog frightens a lion in the den.
4. Your ancestors are Hussain and Hassan.
Both traditions in your person have become one!
5. With oaths Allah persuades you to eat.
To Him you are so dear, so sweet!
6. He who sees your personality’s halo.
Actually sees our Prophet’s spiritual shadow.
7. Zahra’s son is blessed in your birth.
Qadris are your blessing on this earth.
8. The art of giving in yours by inheritance.
The prophet bequeathed to you his pittance.
9. Prophetic rain, Alvi crop, Batooli bower;
Hussain’s fragrance in Hassan’s flower.
10. Prophetic supervision, Alvi star, Batooli boon;
Hussain’s light in Hussain’s moon.
11. Prophetic beauty, Alvi mountain, Batooli quarry;
Hussain’s dazzle in Hassan’s ruby.
12. Ocean or land gardens or desert, city or village,
Which place does not hear your message?
13. With purity of intent, one cannot commit a vice,
I have tested your grace, not once but twice.
14. Your thirsty are too weak to stand and explain.
Their eyes, however, long for your generous vein.
15. O Ghaus! How sinful and dirty I have been.
Before my imminent death, wash me clean!
16. Your holy water I need in right earnest.
It purifies more than a handful of dust!
17. When time comes, the bird of my soul will fly!
Hard luck! I cannot see you until I die!
18. At your door there are dogs, young and old,
Living afar I am still in your fold.
19. Dogs with this insignia are never killed, never!
Please leave your collar on my neck forever.
20. Baghdadi dogs know my name and stamp,
Though in India I am spiritually in the Baghdadi camp.
21. O Master, by virtue of your sense of dignity
Upon your servant’s plight please take pity.
22. A thief, a criminal, a man so base,
O kind Master, I am yours in any case.
23. I shall still be after you named
O Ghaus! If I stand somewhere blamed.
24. Raza! Don’t crawl, you may be small.
Your renowned Master is best of all!
25. Yet another excellent poem for the Master?
Come on, Raza, inscribe your name in the register!
