Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
I have been meaning to ask this for a while, but what does everyone do with their old Islamic photos, you know ... posters and newspaperphotos or even calendars with pictures of the ka'ba sharif and Masjid-e-Nabwi, etc. So many of our retailers now advertise with these sacred and holy places, that adab and manners of their handling seems to be forgotten. We did at one time take our old photos to the mosque for safe keeping but is their any islamic institution or charity that collects them ?

Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
This is quite a serious issue, as more and more holy images are downloaded and printed and appear in many leaflets and magazines. I can recall 10 years ago thinking 'wow ... great picture of the gumbad' ... and would cut the image out to preserve it, but now there are so many, that it wouldnt surprise if one carelessly was neglected or 'thrown away' nauzibillah.
Part responsibility must go with the people that allow these images to be printed on their documents so to help sell their products and services, careless to the fact where these leaflets may end up.

Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu, The other thing you need to be careful of is disposing of wedding invitations etc... A lot of th start with Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem and then get tossed in the rubbish A good reminder to us all to be careful when using these images etc... Fi Amanillah ;D

We usually put the pictures i.e calendars and wedding invitations with Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem in with the recycling.

We tend to bury them or dispose in water. But what of non-Arabic writing? Whats everyone's views? I guess its a question of adab. Personally, I dont like to throw away such texts in any language. The name Muhammed (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) or Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) has powers and deserves respect however its written. But this is not complusory and its down to each individual.

Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu Curious ..... who does the recycling ? By far the safest place would either to be handed to your local mosque, or buried in your own garden or the garden of a reliable muslim freind or neighbour. People who use Islamic holy symbols (text or photos) to advertise non-Islamic services should be boycotted.

Salam, Yes, i would like to know too how you recycle this is a very good idea ? But i think its haram for people to put Islamic Images or words on wedding invitations ? do they want them to be thrown on the floor via the letterbox, because thats whats happening.

Even having ''Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem '' should make us careful of how we dispose of them.

I agree a wedding invitation should only have the necessary details regarding the wedding. I cant understand why do people need to print ayats of the Quran or even Bismillah ? They should replace Bismillah Rahmanir Raheem with 786/92. How many weddings do we see English freinds of the bride and groom, what do they do with these wedding invitations, well they dont keep them forever and probably neither do many muslim counterparts.

Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu Yes, I too have heard of this, burying should be the first option but if that is not possible then one can burn their old images and texts. That is providing they cannot remain in a safe place in someones house.

People tend to put quotes from the Qur'aan on the wedding invitations, but it is usually in english not arabic. We usually rip that part of it out and the cut it up so it doesnt make sense anymore and then throw it. Any views on this?

Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu Yes, its possible to dispose of any non-Arabic translation, as its only the original Arabic form which is considered sacred. However it would be even better if these texts could be saved and buried later when an opportunity arose.
