Shaykh Abd'al-Qadir al-Jilani (Radi Allahu ta'ala anhu) said: You must work hard to ensure that your hearts are not locked out of the door of His nearness. Be sensible! You are getting nowhere. You must seek the company of a Shaykh who is learned in the law [hukm] and knowledge [`ilm] of Allah (Almighty and Glorious is He), and who will show you the way toward Him. Without seeing the successful [muflih], one cannot succeed. If a person does not seek the company of scholars who put their knowledge into practice [`ulama `ummal], he is a chicken from an egg abandoned by the rooster and the mother hen.
Maulana Jalalluddin Rumi (Radi Allahu ta'ala anhu) says:
Ilme Baatin Hamchu masqa, Ilme zaahir hamchu sheer
Ke Buwad sheer masqa, ke buwad be Pir, Pir
Internal Knowledge (ilme baatin) is like butter and External Knowledge (ilme zaahir) is like milk
Like butter cannot be acquired without milk, so to recognition of Allah (ilme baatin) cannot be obtained without a Spiritual Guide.

Al-hamdolillah.
A superb post brother Walid and well said.
A great scholar of Islam, al- Qatalani (rahmatullah alaihi) wrote: "One of the Karamaat Allah ta'ala has bestowed upon the ummah is that there are Qutub, Awtaad, Nujaba and Abdaal among them." A Hadith sharif quoted by Imam at- Tabrani (rahmatullah Alaihi ) in his aswaat states:
"There always exist forty persons on the earth of whom is blessed like Ibrahim (alaihis Salaam).
It rains because of their Baraka. Allah (Subhanah wa Ta'ala) appoints another one when one of them dies."
Al-Khatib al-Bagdad wrote in his kitab, tarikh al bagdad:
The Nuqabaa comprises 300 persons. The Nuqaba comprises 70, the Abdaal 40, the Akhyaar 7 and the Amaad represent 4 persons . There is only one Gaus. When human beings need something, the Nuqabaa pray first. If it is not granted (by Allah Ta'ala), then the Nuqaba pray. And if not granted again, the Abdaal, Akyaar and Amaad pray sequentially. If all not granted, the Gaus, whose prayer will certainly be granted, prays. Allaho Akbar.

Al-hamdolillah. It rains because of their Baraka. Allah (Subhanah wa Ta'ala) appoints another one when one of them dies. Subhanallah brother Furqaan ! HOW TO RECOGNISE A WALI : The method of recognizing a Wali and a non-Wali is to rectify one’s heart and mind, and to adopt his company. Thereafter if you find that his company generates the thought and love of Allah in your heart, then he is a Wali. On the contrary, if the heart indulges in worldly thought, then he is not a Wali, because it is said, “The heart is a mirror of another heart”. Imam Nawawi (Radi Allahu ta'ala Anhu), and also Ibn Maja (Radi Allahu ta'ala Anhu) report that when Sayyadina Rasoolallah (Salla Allahu ta'ala Alayhi wa Sallam) was asked about the characteristics of the Awliya, he declared, “Allah is remembered when they are seen.”

Shukrallah that we have the Ashrafi khanquah because the true scholars and sufi pirs are few and far between. Their devotion, character and taqwa is an old dimension like their ancestors and pir-o-murshid before them. They have no likeness for this dunya and possessions and are totally committed to their goal.

The Awliya are the true instruments of God it is God who speaks to us through them. It is God who looks at us through them they are so much Beloved by Allah, Allah has given them His Love and when God dresses someone with His Love, Then God opens His Secret Love, so God becomes his eye with which God make them to Look, His hand with which God make them to Hold, his tongue with which God make them to Speak, His foot with which God make them to Walk, and when His Beloved servant asks His Beloved for something, God will certainly give it, nowhere is Gods Love more perceptible, Than with those who represent Gods Love Secret.
All praise belongs to the Lord of the Worlds, with countless blessings and salutations on his beloved Prophet Muhammad and may Allah Almighty raise the status even more of his saints Shaykh Madni miya and Shaykh Hashmi miya and all of the khanquah e Ashrafia.

The truthful Ulama and Pirs are with the Ahlas Sunnah wal Jamaat. I think we have gone past the stage where all the corrupt, naive and gullible molvis are still within the mainstream of traditional Islam. The many innocent Muslims that have crossed the line with them will hopefully realise that one day the true scholars of Islam, the Ulama-e-Haq are the defenders of truth. May Allah Almighty guide them back to the right path and save their eman and dignity.

"Do not accompany one whose state does not change you and whose speech does not guide you to Allah."
Until one has met a living and teaching Shaykh there can only be glimpses of the reality in creational experience. Realisation of the reality can only be focused and reflected fully through the exposure to one who is fully realised.
A great Shaykh and arif once said:
"Once you have met your Shaykh you have come to the complete meaning of your life. After this meeting there can only be further unveilings and openings to one’s reality, or may Allah protect us, a covering up of the opportunity and a plunge into darkness."
"Mankind was created neither in vain nor by chance: Does man suppose he will be left in futility?" (75:36)

There is a comment on the last mentioned Qur'anic verse in the famous Hadith (qudsi) where Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) through the mouth of His Beloved Messenger (Salla Allahu alayhi wa Sallam) states why they shall have no fear nor sorrow:
"Allah said, 'I will declare war against him who shows hostility to a pious worshipper of Mine. And the most beloved things with which My slave comes nearer to Me, is what I have enjoined upon him; and My slave keeps on coming closer to Me through performing nawafil (praying or doing extra deeds besides what is obligatory) till I love him, so I become his sense of hearing with which he hears, and his sense of sight with which he sees, and his hand with which he grips, and his leg with which he walks; and if he asks Me, I will give him, and if he asks My protection (Refuge), I will protect him; (i.e. give him My Refuge) and I do not hesitate to do anything as I hesitate to take the soul of the believer, for he hates death, and I hate to disappoint him."
Narrated by Abu Huraira (Radi Allahu ta'ala anhu) in Bukhari, vol8, Hadith 509

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem
JAZZALLAHU ANNA MUHAMMADAM MA HUWA AHLAHU
Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
Unless a shaykh attains the following twelve virtues in himself, he cannot sit on the sajada (prayer rug) of annihilation and wear the sword of being a helper. Two virtues are from Allah, two are from the Prophet (peace be upon him), two are from Abu Bakr, two are from Umar, two are from Osman, and two are from Ali, may Allah be happy with all of them.
The virtues from Allah(SWT) are:
settar (covering of shame or shortcomings)
gaffar (forgiving much).
The virtues from the Prophet Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam are:
shafiq (extreme kindness, mercy)
rafiq (extreme softness)
The virtues from Abu Bakr Radi Allahu anhu are:
saddiq (loyalty)
mutasadduq (much alms giving).
The virtues from Umar Radi Allahu anhu are:
amri maruf (strongly enforcing right action)
nahy-i-munkar (forbidding ill deeds). The virtues from Osman Radi Allahu anhu are:
hospitality
praying during the night when everyone else is sleeping.
The virtues from Ali Radi Allahu anhu are:
alim (knowing)
courage.
