Rasulullah Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam, showed his affection for children in many ways. He would hug them and pat them on their backs. He touched their heads with affection and combed their hair with his fingers. He liked to hold little childen in his arms. He made funny faces to please them. When he would lie down, he sat them on his legs or his chest.
Most all, he loved to play games with the childen. One of his favorites was to make the children stand in a straight line. Then he would stand at a distance, spread his hands and call to the children, Run to me! Whoever tags me first will get a prize!" All the chilren would run to him. In their efforts to be the first to tag him, they would fall all over him. He always gave prizes to the winners and hugged and kissed all the participants

Every child is born a Muslim so why should the Beloved Prophet Salla Allahu ta'ala alayhi wa Sallam be different,
Barra' said, "I saw the Prophet Salla Allahu ta'ala alayhi wa Sallam of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala with Hasan upon his shoulders. The Prophet Salla Allahu ta'ala alayhi wa Sallam was saying, 'O Allah! I love him, so You love him too.'"
Hadith - Bukhari (#86), Muslim, Tirmidhi, and Nasa'i.

Assalamu 'alaykum,
Whenever Rasulullah, Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam, passed by children in the street, he would try to be the first in saying "Assalamu 'alaykum." When the children saw him, they would run up to him. He, Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam, would greet them warmly and affectionately and would always give the children dates, fruit or (traditional) sweets to eat.
In some Salah, Rasulullah, Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam, recited longer Surah's. If he, Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam, heard a baby crying, he would recite a short Surah and perform a shorter Salah.
Rasulullah, Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam, was always pleased to witness the intimacy between the mother and her child. He, Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam, once said:
When Allah, (The Most Sublime), blesses someone with children and they give their children love and meet their parental obligations, Allah, (The Most Compassionate), saves them from the Fire of Hell.

Assalamu 'alaykum,,,
Rasulullah, Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam, loved his grandchildren, (Imam) Hasan and (Imam) Husayn, (Allah be pleased with them both), and enjoyed playing with them both. He, Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam, liked to carry them on his shoulders, calling it a camel's ride. While everyone showed extreme respect for Rasulullah, Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam, little (Imam) Hasan and (Imam) Husayn, (Allah be pleased with them both), were very free with their grandfather, Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam. When he, Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam, prayed Salah, they would pray with him. Sometimes, they would forget their Salah and climb up on him.
Sometimes, Rasulullah, Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam, lengthened his Sujud; prostration, to allow (Imam) Hasan and (Imam) Husayn, (Allah be pleased with them both), to climb down. Often, he, Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam, would support them with his hand to prevent them from falling as he stood up.

Alhamdulilah, do keep this thread coming Sister Umme Yusuf, it is a pleasure to read. It reminds me of my childhood, and my mother telling me how i used to climb on her back when she did Sajda, and how she supported me at times. To love one’s children with utmost care and compassion on account of their being the gifts of the All-Compassionate, All-Munificent One, is again included in love of Almighty Allah.

There are plenty of Ahadith where the Beloved of Allah (Salla Allahu ta'ala alayhi wa Sallam) calls parents to treat their children well and spend on them, e.g. Joining together two of his fingers the Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala alayhi wa Sallam) said: "Whoever performs his prayers properly, spends on his children in spite of his modest means and does not speak ill of others will be in Paradise as close to me as these (two fingers of mine)."

Such a beautiful topic
On not getting angry with the child:
Narrated Um Qais bint Mihsin [Radi Allahu ta'ala anhu]: I brought my young son, who had not started eating (ordinary food) to Allah's Apostle who took him and made him sit in his lap. The child urinated on the garment of the Prophet [Salla Allahu ta’ala alayhi wa Sallam], so he asked for water and poured it over the soiled (area) and did not wash it. (Bukhari 1 4, 223)
On preventing the suffering of the mother and child: Narrated Anas bin Malik [Radi Allahu ta'ala anhu]:
The Prophet [Salla Allahu ta’ala alayhi wa Sallam] said, "When I start the prayer I intend to prolong it, but on hearing the cries of a child, I cut short the prayer because I know that the cries of the child will incite its mother's passions." (1, 11, 677)
On the bond with child:
Narrated Usama bin Zaid:
The daughter of the Prophet [Salla Allahu ta’ala alayhi wa Sallam] sent (a messenger) to the Prophet requesting him to come as her child was dying (or was gasping), but the Prophet returned the messenger and told him to convey his greeting to her and say: "Whatever Allah takes is for Him and whatever He gives, is for Him, and everything with Him has a limited fixed term (in this world) and so she should be patient and hope for Allah's reward." She again sent for him, swearing that he should come. The Prophet got up, and so did Sad bin 'Ubada, Muadh bin Jabal, Ubai bin Ka'b, Zaid bin Thabit and some other men. The child was brought to Allah's Apostle while his breath was disturbed in his chest (the sub-narrator thinks that Usama added: ) as if it was a leather water-skin. On that the eyes of the Prophet [Salla Allahu ta’ala alayhi wa Sallam] started shedding tears. Sad said, "O Allah's Apostle! What is this?" He replied, "It is mercy which Allah has lodged in the hearts of His slaves, and Allah is merciful only to those of His slaves who are merciful (to others). (2, 23, 373)
On feeding the child:
Narrated Asma [Radi Allahu ta'ala anha]: That she conceived 'Abdullah bin Az-Zubair. She added, "I migrated to Medina while I was at full term of pregnancy and alighted at Quba where I gave birth to him. Then I brought him to the Prophet [Salla Allahu ta’ala alayhi wa Sallam] and put him in his lap. The Prophet [Salla Allahu ta’ala alayhi wa Sallam] asked for a date, chewed it, and put some of its juice in the child's mouth. So, the first thing that entered the child's stomach was the saliva of Allah's Apostle. Then the Prophet [Salla Allahu ta’ala alayhi wa Sallam] rubbed the child's palate with a date and invoked for Allah's Blessings on him, and he was the first child born amongst the Emigrants in the Islamic Land (i.e. Medina). (5, 58, 248)
On love for the child:
Narrated Abu Huraira [Radi Allahu ta'ala anhu]:
I was with Allah's Apostle in one of the Markets of Medina. He left (the market) and so did I. Then he asked thrice, "Where is the small (child)?" Then he said, "Call Al-Hasan bin 'Ali." So Al-Hasan bin 'Ali got up and started walking with a necklace (of beads) around his neck. The Prophet [Salla Allahu ta’ala alayhi wa Sallam] stretched his hand out like this, and Al-Hasan did the same. The Prophet [Salla Allahu ta’ala alayhi wa Sallam] embraced him and said, "0 Allah! l love him, so please love him and love those who love him." Since Allah's Apostle said that. nothing has been dearer to me than Al-Hasan. (7, 72, 772)
Ya Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala make us love the child like your Beloved Salla Allahu ta’ala alayhi wa Sallam loved them.

Nice thread everyone. The Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala alayhiwa Sallam) was perfectly balanced in his virtues and good moral qualities. He was perfectly courageous where to show courage was necessary, while he was perfectly mild, forgiving and humble among people. He was perfectly dignified but also very gracious. There was no one more generous than him but he was also thrifty and condemned extravagance.
In short, all virtues and good qualities existed in him in a well-balanced combination ,he was perfect in every sense of the word. Allahu Akhbar.

Assalamu 'alaykum,
(Hadrat) 'Anas, Allah be pleased with him, came to Rasulullah's, (Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam) household when he was eighty years old. He served Rasulullah, (Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam) for ten years. (Hadrat) Anas, Allah be pleased with him, reported:
Rasulullah, (Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam), never admonished or ridiculed me for anything. If some member of his family was angry with me for some reason, Rasulullah, (Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam), told him (or her), "Leave (Hadrat) Anas alone. If something is destined to happen, then it will happen."
Young (Hadrat) Anas, Allah be pleased with him, spent most of his time in the service of Rasulullah, (Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam). Once, Rasulullah, (Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam), asked him, "Anas will you do something for me?" (Hadrat) Anas replied retortedly, "No I shall not." Although he had said this, he fully intended to do whatever Rasulullah, (Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam), asked of him.
Rasulullah, (Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam), knew (Hadrat) Anas was being naughty, so he asked him to go and run an errand for him. When (Hadrat) Anas, Allah be pleased with him, went out, he forgot about the errand and joined some children who were playing outside. Rasulullah, (Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam), waited for some time and then went looking for him. He, (Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam), saw (Hadrat) Anas, Allah be pleased with him, absorbed in the game. Quietly, Rasulullah, (Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam), surprised him from behind, caught him by his hair and gently pulled. (Hadrat) Anas, Allah be pleased with him, turned around and saw Rasulullah, (Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam), standing behind him - smiling. He suddenly remembered the errand he was supposed to do.
Rasulullah, (Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam), asked (Hadrat) Anas, "Did you go where I sent you?" (Hadrat) Anas, Allah be pleased with him, was embarrassed. He replied, "Right away, O Rasulullah! (Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam). I will go there right now!"
(Hadrat) Anas, Allah be pleased with him, rushed off to do the errand as fast as he could run. Rasulullah, (Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam), watched him go. There had been no need to chide or raise his voice. The look of love and kind expectation in the eyes of Rasulullah, (Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam), had been enough to inspire the young boy to his responsibilities.

Subhanallah another enjoyable post Sister UmmeYusuf! If i may add my piece about the most faithful companion and servant of Sayyiduna Rasulullah (Salla Allahu ta'ala alayhi wa Sallam) Hadrat Anas bin Malik (Radi'Allahu ta'ala anhu).
Hadrat Anas (Radi'Allahu ta'ala anhu) was the renowned Companion of the Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala alayhi wa Sallam) right from his childhood he was in the service of the Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala alayhi wa Sallam). He was exceedingly faithful and obedient. He was ever willing and enthusiastic to do any work assigned to him by the Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala alayhi wa Sallam). He used to listen to the talks by the Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala alayhi wa Sallam) very attentively and with keen interest. It was with Hadrat Anas (Radi'Allahu ta'ala anhu) only that the Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala alayhi wa Sallam) had cut that palatable joke which is well known as ‘Do Kan Wale’ (man with two ears). The Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala alayhi wa Sallam) had addressed him once as “O! Do Kan Wale”, which in Arabic idiom means ‘obedient’.
The delicacy about this joke is that it is a statement of fact that every man has to ears.

Great thread everyone ; Here's an extract on the human character of Sayyidina Rasulallah (Salla Allahu ta'ala alayhi wa Sallam).
He treated his servants well. Whatever he wore or ate, he would give to them to wear and eat.
He was generous, beneficial, compassionate, forgiving, brave and mild. In speech, he kept to his word. In essence, his excellent morality, sharp powers of reasoning were greater than those of all other people and worthy of great praise.

Alhamdulilah, the Beloved Prophet (salla Allahu tala alayhi wa Sallam) leading by example. Islam commands its believers not only to take care of the physical upbringing of their children but also their educational, moral and spiritual development. The Qur'an al-Karim (:19) says:
0 you who believe, strive to protect yourselves and your wives and children from the fire.
