Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu,
Brothers and Sisters I have started this thread in the hope to get to know you all better. I am curious to find out about where in the world everyone is from and the Muslim community in your country.
I myself am from New Zealand. We have a small community here of about 40,000 Muslims. Some of which are true Sunnis some of which are Wahabi's. We have a good community and a few good organisations promoting the beliefs of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat. We have been blessed by having Hadrat Ghazi al Millat visit our country and I believe the majority of Sunnis here are his Mureeds. These organisations hold regular functions celebrating Milad etc... And organise bigger Jalsa's during special months etc... Like Rabi ul Awwal. The first Muslims in NZ were Chinese who came here to work in the gold mining industry. Now we have Muslims from all corners of the globe although the Majority appear to be either Indian from Fiji and from India and Pakistani. I hope with a growing community and Insha Allah more visits from great persons such as Hadrat Ghazi al Millat that our community will grow and become stronger.
Please share you stories as I am really interested to hear them as I am sure other members are.
Jazak Allah Khair,
Fi Amanillah.

Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu Same here when i was small where we grew up in small heath, Birmingham it just had a few asian shops at corners and here and there. Now its impossible to see any shop, business, retailer to be owned by anyone other than Asian/Muslim ... WE ARE EVERYWHERE ;D !! Its also great during Rabbi Awwal because there are about six big Sunni Mosques who all hold BIG Milad-un-Nabi processions. Also takeaways are the cheapest in Britain.

Here in Auckland we only really have one Sunni Mosque and even that has been infiltrated by the Wahabi influence. We have maybe 3 Sunni Alims here, there are a lot of good people doing some great things for Sunniat here. I like the sound of cheap takeaways Insha Allah I may get to visit England again someday. I am originally from Hartlepool. Born in Sunderland. Actually that reminds me, does anyone know if there is a Muslim community in Hartlepool? Fi Amanillah.

It is a thriving multi-cultural cnetre for all races and we mix easily with all cultures. There are hundreds of Masjids, too many Sunni ones to list here, some are purpose built like the massive Ghamkhol sharif, others are converted from old houses.

Asalaam o'liekum
Wel I'm from Leicester and its very multi cultural here... which is nice as the different cultures do get on... but you get a small majority which don't believe in mixing.
My parents are from Pakistan from a place called Gujranwalle.... think it's spelt like that. That used to be a multi cultured place too where the Muslims, hindu and sikh mixed... but later the hindu and sikh tried to kick the mulims out of the village by terrorising them and bombing houses and shops..... later the Muslims of the village got together and fought against them.... and soon the hindus and sikh became very frightened and eventually out numbered and left the village themselves! Allah o Akbar!

Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu Well im from PRESTON Preston is the UK'S NEWEST CITY in 2002 i think. The greater Preston area has 350,000 people in it. Central Preston has 150,000 where the majority of the muslims are based. Preston has about 20,000 asians of which about 12,-15,000 are Muslims. The rest are sikhs and hindus. Preston has also the first or one of the first purpose built mosques in the uk. The Masjid-e-Raza was built around 1972 and hasnt changed a bit apart from a new roof a few years ago (the old one was badly leaking). The Mosque has purchased some adjacent land recently and are collecting for a new hall, which will include a womens centre, a separte food hall and a janaza/burial refrigeration unit. All donations welcome.

I’m from a town called Blackburn, which is in the North West of England and is about 10 miles from Preston. It has a population of just over 137,000 and has a thriving Asian community. Among the Asian Community, Indians and Pakistanis predominate, with 10,000 and 8,000 respectively. The principal languages after English are Urdu and Gujarati, and, the major religion among the Asian community is Islam. According to the Office for National Statistics, Blackburn has a Muslim population of 27,000, which is 19% of the total population of Blackburn. But the sad thing is that the majority of the Muslim population are not followers of the Ahle Sunnah. This is largely reflected in the considerable number of Wahabbi mosques around Blackburn. However, Blackburn is very lucky to hold the headquarters of the Muhaddith-e-Azam Mission, so it’s not all bad Oh yeah, another significant feature of my hometown are the hills. It’s full of them, and I don’t mean green hills. ;D

Apologies for the late reply, I am from Leicester, UK. Hazrat Sheikh Ul Islam used to preach in my living room (still got the same house) until my grandfather coverted two houses into a mosque (Sutherland Street Mosque) where Sheikh Ul Islam started to preach. The other sunni mosques are Leicester Central Mosque (conduit street) and Masjid e Billal

It would appear that the Majority of you are from England, sounds like there is a thriving community there. Insha Allah my wife and I plan to visit in the next year or two, hopefully we can time it so Shaykh ul Islam or my Pir Shahab Ghazi e Millat(or even both) are there. I look forward to visiting the sunni mosques and Insha Allah meeting some of you(my new family ). Thank you for sharing your stories please keep them coming. Jazak Allah Khair, Fi Amanillah.

Brother Suhayb it would be a pleasure to welcome you and your family. Unfortunately things are not as rosey as you describe in the UK. Obviously we (muslims in general) are in the limelight at present for the wrong reasons, but it has not stopped the 'wallabies' i dont mean the aussies but you know who, from re-assessing or changing their script, infact it has made the raging bull even more angry snarling at whoever treads its path.
But as with every where else i suppose we do have our good points and they are most certainly seen flourishing when the shuyukh visit us. That would definately be the right time for you to enter the united kingdom of Makhdoom Ashraf. You have brought us all so much pleasure since you joined the board and became a mod, long may it continue and see you soon InshaAllah.

Asalamu Alaikum Waruhmatullah Wabarakatuha I'm from Mars, and my wife is from Venus@ ;D Well presently Im in the sunny city of Aden, resting on the southern tip of Yemen. Surrounded by mountains and the sea, the port here was once the thrid busy in the world. Naturally, this resulted in an infkux of migrants from all over. Generations later, many have little connection to their home countries such as India, Pakistan, save for the language. Yet you can see the influence all around, and the funny thing is, the locals dont realise (such as their duboius claim to barfi being a locally discovered sweet! ) The majority is overall sunni, though there are some zaidi-shia in the north. Yemen is home to the habaib ulema/silsila in the western area known as Hadramout which houses the supremely Sunni Dar ul Mustafa/Badr shafi schools. But, sadly, being a neighbour of Kingdom of Wahabbism, the poison has begum to spread, such as following them Ramdhan, Eid etc for political reasons. The only benefit in this, is that the whole country will do Eid together. However, Our Blessed Master (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) spoke the following sweet words, InshAllah they apply to me also Narrated Abu Huraira: I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "Pride and arrogance are characteristics of the rural bedouins while calmness is found among the owners of sheep. Belief is Yemenite, and wisdom is also Yemenite i.e. the Yemenites are well-known for their true belief and wisdom)." Abu 'Abdullah (Al-Bukhari) said, "Yemen was called so because it is situated to the right of the Ka'ba, and Sham was called so because it is situated to the left of the Ka'ba." Bukhari 4, 56, 703) Orginally I'm a mancunian (Manchester) - where the wahabbi bandwagon moves slowly. Many sunni mosques. The mosque I follow - Manchester Central Mosque - was I believe originally either set-up or infiltrated by wahabbis in the 1970/80s, but visiting sunni shaykun soon informed the worshippers who drove them out and its been sunni ever since The Imam - Imam Arshad Misbahi Sahib is excellent at reaching out to the youngsters, and is close to Shaykh ul Islam.

Assalamu alaikum,
I live in Manchester which is close to Cheshire. Manchester has a muslim community compromising of a large Pakistani community with sizeable groups of Bangladeshis, Somalis and Arabs. Although the larger mosques Manchester Central Mosque (Rusholme), North Manchester Jamia mosque (Crumpsall) , Darul uloom (Longsight)and Faizan ul islam (Old Trafford) are sunni overall i think deobandis and/or ahle hadith/wahabbies have a greater number of mosques but they are not as large in size.
