Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuIt's called Vista and Microsoft have going on about it for a couple of years now. Its only released for business use yet and it wont make any difference to the normal user. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6158719.stm

Salam brothers. Pardon my lengthy absence but to answer the question i have Windows Vista Ultimate Edition, not the Release Candidate 2 but the fully fledged licensed operating system. Its basically a more complex and security enhanced os that makes xp look like a dinosaur. Its got the visuals of Apple os but under microsoft clothing.
Loads of new enhancements which include 'readyboost' that allows you to use usb flash drives for ram and that definately boosts performance without adding extra ram in the system.
The new Aero visual enhancement allows each screen you open to be transparent so you see the screen behind the one you are looking at, like stained glass effect which is very nice.
minimum requirement for the enhanced vista is a minimum of 1gb of ram as at start up the system requires around 525mb of ram. ideally you would need 2gb of ram to keep system stability without turning to the page file as this would slow performance right down.
To run the Aero visual enhancement a 512mb graphics card is a must. You can disable it though in themes under display properties.
The start menu, control panels and a few other menus have been re designed.
The negative is that nothing is written to vista as of yet. Partition magic doesnt work, as doesnt diskeeper so they are off the system. Forget drivers for anything as you will be running xp based drivers until full vista drivers are released.
I'll post more should you need more info.
Salam
Naveed

Listen, i get it cos i get it! i have the full version of Vista Ultimate. Im in the pc sector with businesses so i got it that way.
Many happy computing to you all.
Besides, its not all that but it will shift the prices of pc's higher given that its a demanding operating system. As i dual boot with xp pro sp2 and Vista Ultimate their is a huge difference between them in operating standards.
Dont contemplate on how I got it but think of the spec of pc you will require to run it if and when you decide to upgrade to it.
My advice for spec is : -
Dual core Athlon 4200+ or Intel core 2 duo e6600 3gb of ram (ddr or ddr 2) Nforce chipset (4, 5 or 6) 512mb ddr 3 gpu (7600gt and better) sata 2 hdd - 120gb minimum
If you have the above you are well away.
However most things dont work on it so im using xp mainly for now until software is written for it.
I hope I answered you question!

Salam brothers. Pardon my lengthy absence ........ Naveed Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuWelcome back and thanks for the brief insight into Vista. Obviously i haven't had the opportunity to use Vista yet, but from what you've said and from some other Reviews, it seems a bit extravagant for the general user, someone like myself who uses the pc for internet access, Microsoft Office and a few other 3rd party applications. It seems as though all the extra ram and processor power required is just to run the OS itself. Personally, i'd rather have all the extra ram and power on XP to help with the applications that i use, rather than run fancy graphics and icons available on Vista. But i do like the "readyboost" feature that you've mentioned, i could definatley make use of that on XP. I've no doubt that Vista will be popular just because of the fancy graphics factor.

Readyboost is only operational on vista. The most you could do on xp is shift the pagefile from drive c to another drive perhaps (ram x 1.5). Perhaps a 4gb memory stick on usb 2 interface perhaps ?
Besides, support for xp will discontinue at some point so everyone will have to shift to vista at some point. (vista home basic, home premium, business and ultimate are but some versions of vista)
