Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAlot of people say that wearing black clothing is not allowed especially at weddings, the bride and groom are in particalar advised against it, saying its bad luck. Is there any truth in this? Some poeple do not wear black because our Beloved Prophet Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam owned a black cloak, wouldn't it then be sunnah for us to wear black too? I'm a bit confused, I eagerly await your reply. JazakhAllah khair for your time and effort in your response.

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam Jazak'allah for your question. There is nothing that states in the Qur'an al Kareem or in the Ahadith that a bride or groom cannot wear black clothing, especially in cases of poverty where the only type of clothing the bride or the groom have is black. There is also no bad luck associated with wearing black clothing, as this is merely heresay. You also have to remember that the Beloved Messenger of Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam owned a black shawl so if people did not wear black then this would be in contravention to all the rest of the Sunnahs which people follow of the Beloved Messenger of Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam, and thus claim we shouldnt do this, because the Messenger of Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam did this (Na-udhu-billah). May Allah Almighty protect us from such false ideas.Wallahu A'lamu BiththawaabM. Waseem Ashrafi
