Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
I pray this message reaches you in the best of health and Islamic spirit. By the grace of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala and the wasila of His Beloved Messenger Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam.
A brother has raised a question on the forum around wearing a baseball cap, or any sort of cap for that matter. Whilst I can understand not wearing one for Namaaz is it true that it is not permissable at any time to wear hats? Except for the Muslim style hats?
I am concerned as I wear sun hats in summer for protection and don't want to do anything which may be haram?
Jazak Allah Khair

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuPraise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa SallamJazak'allah Suhayb for the question you have asked, may Allah the Almighty guide us all upon the Straight Path. ( Amin) Although the wearing of hats, and that is the Islamic syle hats, is a sunnah of the Messenger of Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam, and we wear them for that reason, I dont think you would wear a baseball cap, or any other hat for that reason, but only because it is a fashion. Why would you want to fashion your hat in such a way when Islam has it's own dress code and sense, which all other religions and countries follow? If I told you that, the wearing of hats had stemmed from Islam, would it suprise you if you wore the ancient style hat, rather than the more modern one? However, if you say that you wear your hat for protection, because you have some form of illness, then it is permissable so long as your intention for wearing the hat, and it's purpose is correct. It would not be haram to wear it then, as you will have had a valid reason. Please take note that wearing a Muslim style hat is a sign of a Muslim, especially in the non-Islamic states, where the non-Muslims can look upon you and say to themselves, 'now he is a Muslim', or 'what fine hats do the Muslims wear'. This is the sort of impression we should have upon the non-Muslims, so that we may preserve and safeguard our identity, which is very precious to us. May Allah the Almighty safeguard all our Iman, so that we have a good life, now, and in the hereafter. (Amin) Wallahu A'lamu BiththawaabM. Waseem Ashrafi
