Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem
Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
I have a question about the burqa. Since I have been brought up in the Netherlands and I have never read in an islamic sunni (hanafi) book that you have to cover your face. I have only learned that women should cover their hair/head, legs, arms...basically their whole body so that the shapes aren't obvious to any man. And it's not necessary to cover the hands, feet and face. In history class, I have learned that the burqa was actually a pre-islamic clothing, that women would wear in the desert to avoid sand coming in their faces and eyes (Since I have learned this in history class, it could be that it is a Western biased way of thinking).
I'm not sure if I am saying anything wrong, I'm sorry if I am. I have read one of your questions where you told the person that it's ok if you don't wear a niqab, because of the medical reasons. You also state that "In todays society where people have false propaganda in connection to Islam, and there are eradications from organisations because of Islamic dress, and other issues which destroy the image of our religion, as it is falsely portrayed in the media, then the scholars have been lenient towards some of the seemingly rigid principles in Islam. This is another way of fighting off false accusations, and imputations against Islam, which are portrayed to the west. Wearing the niqab, and wearing the hijab, is one of many of these issues." (ashraf786.proboards15.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=dress&thread=1195856514&page=1 ) Could you tell me more about what you mean with the statement?
Also the question is really if you can provide me a Surah or a valid Hadith where there is written that you have to cover your whole face. There has been given a Surah and Hadith on the site (ashraf786.proboards15.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=1197570942&page=1), but there are millions of translations on the internet. I wouldn't want to base my opinion on a translation without knowing the source. But I'm sure that you will only provide me a translation of Surah or a Hadith about covering the face which has a good source. And I think you are the only one who can tell me if the translation in the topic is right. If there is a source that is against covering the face then I would like to see that too.
My question rose because in India a lot of women wear a burqa and people are convinced that islam says so. But if it does, then why isn't it worn by everybody and in some other islamic countries? Am I just getting wrong information or is it more because the culture in India or Pakistan which forces a woman to wear a burqa. Say because of the staring men? Or are all the other countries/women just wrong?
My last question is what is more preferable? Wearing a burqa/niqab where you cover your face or wearing a hijab where your face isn't covered. And if the burqa is more preferable, why is it so? I'm sorry that I have asked so many question in one post. I do understand that it could take a long time answering this. I am fully aware that the Western way of thinking might have biased me. So I must admit that I am very negative about the burqa, because I feel that it truly limits the freedom of interaction with people. Like I love to talk and smile towards childeren. But I am open to receive any information that is either positive or negative towards covering the face. I hope you can help me form a healthy opinion about it. So thank you very very much in advance and I'm sorry if I said anything wrong.
