Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
I'm just wondering what happens to the mureeds of a Murshid (Spiritual Guide) who has just passed away?
Do the mureeds have to renew their bait with another Murshid or does their bait remain with the deceased Murshid?

Good question, from my little knowledge I think I can remember being told that kamil shaykhs get more power to give faaiz when they take veil from this world, as they are not limited to the boundaries of the world now, and they can concetrate more on that mureed.
Sending esaal-e-sawaab and visiting the mazaar shareefs of ones shaykh is a great way to attract the shaykhs attention towards yourself.
Please correct me if I am wrong, I shall be looking forward to shah saabs reply.

A Kaamil Shaykh is always there with the mureed. A mere mud or sand can't come between Pir and mureed.
When Sayyiduna Sayyidi Shamsudeen Hanafi (alaihir rahmah) was on his death-bed, he called his Mureeds and said: "If anyone has any wish or need, he should come to my grave, I will indeed help him in fulfilling it. Remember between you and me, there is merely a handful of sand, and how can a mere handful of sand be a screen between a Murshid and his Mureed. If the sand does become a screen, then the Murshid cannot be a perfect Man (Insaan-e-Kaamil)."
My beloved Murshid-e-Kamil took veil 11 year's ago(May Allah grant him high place in Janna'h).
I met many Shaykh's & Sufi sit with them take their sohbet but never take talib-e-bayah.
I share very special relationship with my Shaykh' son and grandson's but still i did'nt took bayah wid them.
I never feel my Shaykh is away from me, i always feel his Nazre karam on me.
Duniya mere haal se wakif nahi magar daawe se keh raha hun ki wo bekhabar nahi
Everyday i lock myself and sit alone and just picturise my Shaykh and feel the warmness in my heart.
main unse kar raha tha tasawwur mein guftagu duniya samjh rahi thi ke deewana hogaya hun main
One can take Talib-e-Bayah with another shaykh , But on the day of judgement he will be standing under the Flag of his Shaykh.
It is most advisable to take talib-e-bayah from one's Shaykh Janasheen , Son or Khalifa.
Tariqa dont stop you from taking talib-e-bayah.
But always remember all the barakah in spiritual path will come from your Shaykh.

You heard it right beloved brother.
Before the passing away of Moulana Rumi (alaihir rahmah), he revealed to his Mureeds a startling secret. He said: "Whatever conditions you may be in, remember me, so that I can be your protector and helper, irrespective of what state I may be in. In this world I have two types of relationships, one with my body and the other with you, and when, with the Mercy of Allah I am freed from this contact with my body and the world of loneliness is exposed to me, I will divert the attention of my soul to you."

Subhanallah.
I agree totally with brother Naseer and respected Sayyid Sahib as your both correct. After the Murshid passes away the bayah remains intact as the Shaykh has not died but is alive in the grave and their faiz is 'jaree' living.

I thought if one doesn't have a spirtual connection to his shaykh that being able to communicate with his shaykh by using muraqabah (after he has passed) it is required for you to goto another shaykh who can fullfil the path for you.
