Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
Alhumdulillah i'm expecting a baby girl in November and was concerned about some practices that people do when a baby is born.
Some people put a knife or pieces of metal under a newborn baby's bedding. I have no intention of doing this as i've never even heard of this practice before until someone from amongst the in-laws mentioned it.
Is this an Islamic practice i.e. something prescribed in sunnah or by the awliya? Or is it haram to be doing things like this? Will i be accountable for it if i let it happen?
Jazak Allah khair

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam Do not let this happen. There is no basis of it within the sunnah, nor has it ever been prescribed by the Qur'an. What should be done is the adhan, the iqamah, the 'aqiqah, and the shaving of the babies head, and alms given to the poor in weight of the hair shaven. Unfortunately, I am unaware of the process of the knife that you have described, and it should be avoided. Jazak'allah for your question. Wallahu A'lamu BiththawaabM. Waseem Ashrafi
