Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu ASALATU WASALAMU ALAYKA YA RASULLALLAH Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam
Salaam brothers and sisters. Alhamdolillah as sunnis we realise the importance and the blessings of celebrating milaad. There are many rewarding acts that we carry out in this month alhamdolillah, like the Jaloos (Blessed march), the Jalsa (Blessed gatherings), the decorations, lightings, and other rewarding acts.
However one thing which I have been thinking deeply about since my mind has come across, is the lights and decorations we put up. Now alhamdolillah I agree that decorations and lightings should be put up. However, now I have seen masjids and madrasahs and peoples houses covered, and I mean absolutley covered with lights, now here I ask myself that what if we did participate and put up SOME lights and SOME decorations to show our love and that we are sunnis and ashiqs, and rather then spending too much on lights why dont we save the other bit of money and donate it to a sunni madrasah/daraloom and educate our children about the deen. As that is a massive massive thing us sunnis across the world are lacking. The Najdis/deo's are way infront of us. And they instead of spending money on other things spend it on teaching their youngsters.
Why dont we adapt this method?
What do you guys think.
Najdis are always laughing and saying all you 'barelwis' know what to do is naat mehfils, meet peers, celebrate milaad, eat langars and go home. Although we are still better then them, however they do have a valid point?
What do you guys think. Please do participate in this thread as I dont make many threads, but this topic is very important to me and is something my mind has been pondering about since last milaad.
Also where do our sunnis draw the line. Before it was just milaad; Jalsa and Jaloos, now its the decorations, then the lights and other stuff, then the flag waving trend come in. Now I see on Noor TV a new advertisment of 'Candle walk' and other astonishing things? What are your opinions on this?

well I know what your saying bro, but the way i look at it is that why are we the sunnis in this state. i mean the wahhbis have been funded by the oil money and are only ahead in dollars and nothing else.
we should continue with the decorations and the more the merrier. the day we stop the day the wahhbis will think they have one foot in our camp.

Jazakallah for your reply brother, Um.. but brother I am not saying stop, I am saying keep it up, but to an extent, and yes the fact that we are at a disadcantage with no funding is all the more reason I put my argument forward that spend more money on educating, but still some decorations and lights and stuff?

Well said brother! Why should we stop celebrating Milad to the max?, we see many decorations on the streets for non Muslim festivals christmas, diwali etc Al hamdulilla in my home town the decorations will go up for Milad funded by the Council, we should not be afraid to spend/celebrate Milad to welcome the waladat of the greatest creation ever, the misguided are the ones missing out in this duniya and the herefater. Hazrat Abu Bakar Radi Allahu anhu says whoever spends 1 dhiram on the Birthday of the Beloved Prophet Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam will be in jannat with me. An Ne Matul Kubra.Ps Brother Naqshbandi I did not click on the thread I was given the link by yourself ! Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu

Its not about being afraid, I am saying that maybe spend the money on education something which the sunnis are lacking in very very much. Can you further eloborate?? Do you really believe its the Sunni's that lack Education?? Its the misguided who lack education hence the reason they do not celebrate Milad Al hamdulilla we have great Sunni Scholars alims and they are on the increase from the younger generation. We have more knowledge on Islam than 10/20 years ago, more parental involvement in Islamic Education than before. Our Masjid has many Educational programmes for brothers, sisters the young and the old, hifz claases, fiqh classes, etc etc . I would spend money on Education and Milad. Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu brother Naqshbandi I hope U dont mind a gal ( sister) answering as U hav asked only the guys What do you guys think.[/quote] They dont hav a valid point brother. how can u say that "The one who rejoices on the birth day of the Noble Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam would not be severely punished and it is hopped that a Muslim who celebrate the Milad un Nabi Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam, will not be punished in hell. Imam Bukhari Rahmatullah Alaih narrates that Abu Lahab would be punished lightly in the hell on Monday. Because he rejoiced and freed his handmaid indicating by his finger, when the Prophet of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala took birth. So as a reward of happiness on Milad un Nabi Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam he would be given water by his finger. (Saheehul Bukhari Vol. 2, Page 764) Imam Shams ud din Naseer Al Damaishqi narrates this hadith in poetry. Here is its translation. If such kafir was denounced (in the Quran) And perished are his hands, and in the flame is his eternal abode. It is narrated every Monday. His torment is made easy for his joy at the birth of Ahmad. Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa SallamWhat is the expectation then of a servant who spent all his life. Happy with the arrival of Ahmad Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam and died on the one ness of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala Almighty. (Haul-ul-Ahtifal Bil Mawlid Al-Nabvi Al Sharif, Page 11) Even Ibn Tay'miah said in his book "Necessity of the Right Path", p. 266, 5th line from the bottom of that page, published by Dar Al-Hadith, the following: Although Milad was not practiced by (Salaf), they should have done so since there was no objection against it from the Shari'ah point of view". And we certainly only celebrate Milad out of love and admiration to the Prophet Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallamof all Mankind. Imam Al-Hafiz Al-Qastalani, who gave commentary on Sahih Bukhari, said: "May Allah Almighty Subhanahu wa Ta'ala shower his Mercy upon a person who takes the days of the month of Rabbi-ul-Awwal, in which the Noble Prophet Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallamwas born, as days of feast and celebration for doing so is the best cure for the heart of an ailing person." Imam Abu-Bakr Abdullah Al-Dimashqi compiled a number of books on the subject and called them "Collection of Traditions on the Birth of the Chosen Prophet Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam", "The Pure Expression on the Birthday of the Best of Creations" and "The Spring for the Thirsty One on the Birth of the Rightly Guided". Imam Abu-Shamah, The Sheikh of Al Hafiz Al Nawawi, said: "The best of the innovations of our times is what is carried out on the day of corresponding to the birthday of our Beloved Prophet Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam), where people give out donations, practice what is right, express their joy and happiness, in doing so is surely a sign of love and admiration for the Prophet Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam". Regarding laughing of these najdis brother Naqshbandi they are obviously the greatest gustaks . what more can be expected from them whose base only is wrong. they recite the kalima shahadat "La ilaha illalla Muhammadur RasoolAllah" but dont understand the simple point the great status of Nabi kareem Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam'that is mentioned in the kalima shahadat itself. This point itself shows how brainless fools they are. They are getting fooled by their own logics, explanations etc., Now , to what conclusion I hav arrived is wahaabis/najdis hav no brains at all. This is y they cant understand we shouldnt argue wid fools . Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu

Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
ignoring the fact of wahabi's being mentioned as they have no basis in our life.
the brother has a valid point that more money should be spent educating our children and even elders about the importance of such events and why we celebrate them. many of us just follow our ancestors blindly and milad is one of those things that one should do but many don't know why they should do it.
by all respect put up your lights and decorate your house "Huzoor agaye hain" how would you like it if the most blessed of creation came to your house and you hadn't prepared any kind of decoration as you would if a new bride were coming to your home?
but how will you be able to face the beloved Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam if he asks how much did you spend in the way of promoting my deen? if you spent more on the decor!!!
i think this is basically what brother naqshbandi is trying to say not that we shouldn't celebrate milad but that we should also make sure that we are contributing towards the education of our people.

MashAllah good points sister Fatma,
My point it is only for 1 day to celebrate Eido kee Eid how many days as parents do we spend on educating our children throughout the year?? we have fees to pay for their arabic lessons, urdu lessons etc
I don't go over the top with decorations I have been re using my lights for years in fact I have never taken them off since they were put up in my front living room. I will re use my flags which are plastic so re useable.
If some of us can spend money on expensive birthday gifts for our loved ones so why should we not do so on our Beloved Rasool Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam?
Yes spend wisely and sensiblily.

milaad-un-nabi only comes once in a year so i think we should do as much as we can to celebrate it even if we have to spend a little bit extra for it.and as for education i dont think that by spending a little more on one day will effect us paying for the education for kids throughout the year.yes education is very important kids can get educated all throughout the year but milaad-un-nabi can only be celebrated once a year.

Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
Naqshbandi makes a very valid point.
We are not suggesting we dont celebrate miladun nabi Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam (maaza'Allah),but only that importance should be given to education and other waajibaats of deen too.
Although ulema have said that there is not such things a moneywasting(its not counted as such) where milad un nabi and good actions are concerned,it is imperative that we dont overdo things just to get one over the neighbours. If they have 10 lights on their house we must have 20 etc.
We should put equal or more effort into learning our faraaid and wajibat too.
How many of our married brothers here know the complete fiqh of the womens menstual cycle (its neccassary for men for ones married life) i.e. when she can/cant pray,or if a problem was to arise then what the fiqhi solution was etc?
How many of us know the complete fiqh the salaah of a traveller or for one with an udhr(excuse)?
the list goes on.
We have to know these tings as these are the things known as farz knowledge(faraaidh),and are directly related to our worship. We should not rely on ulema for everything.
Yes milad should be celebrated with all pomp and glory if funds allow, but if its means nothing being left for the fard or wajib deeni propagation then allowances should be made so there sufficient for both, at least.
Actually the candle procession is an established practice of the people of madina shareef of old times as observed by muhaditheen like shah wali Ullah Delvi etc at the time of milad.
We are not producing good ulema, these days especially english speakers and its is said that it is fardh kafayah(fard binding on the whole community) to have an alim in the community, hence all being sinful if there wasnt an alim.
However decorating houses and processions are not fard kafayah but just mustahab amals.
The worst thing is our sunni mentality has got so much twisted that anyone who suggests these things is jumped upon by some ignorant self acclaimed "ashiqs and super sunnis" and categorised as deviant or against milad shareef.
So do continue milad shareef(regardless of what wahaabis say)but through real love and appreciation for RasoolAllah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam, but please also focus on the spreading and practicing that what RasoolAllah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam brought for us this includes learning and teaching/spreading the knowledge that RasoolAllah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam described as farz on every muslim.
Sister Anjum the issue is not the validity of celebrating milad shareef,so please there is no need provide proof(we are all sunnis here).
Dear sister Fatma that is not a good example as respect for RasoolAllah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam is farz, whereas for a bride its not.

i mean the wahhbis have been funded by the oil money and are only ahead in dollars and nothing else. . No brother, they're well ahead in propogation of their twisted aqeeda aswell as comparative religion. Infact they bring more people(non muslims) into islam than sunnis(who are too busy promoting" maslaks" of their sunni elders over the "maslak" of sunni elders of other sunnis and disregarding differences of opinion amongst sunnis thereby causing divisions) You will find that bringing non muslims into islam is what the Prophets alayhis 'salam of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'alaall did and emphasised,so isnt it strange that those we consider ghustak are acting upon this and us "ashiqs" are not? I suppose some "sunni" will come out with the rhetoric "of them only bringing reverts into wahaabism" to that i will ask you ? "who would you rather be,someone who believes in the kalima(regardless of bud aqeeda) or a christan or jew or buddist etc. A bad muslim is better than the best non muslim.

Dear sister Fatma that is not a good example as respect for RasoolAllah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam is farz, whereas for a bride its not. Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhuall i'm trying to say here is if there was a marriage in your house you would decorate it to the max. so our Prophet Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam is the best of creation so it is more important to decorate ones house for their arrival. never said it was farz to respect a bride or not. hope i clarified that.

Jazakallahu khayrun, I am glad to see the replies, and the healthy discussion. Both sides of the argument are correct, just which ever side you see it from. I am glad to see that brother Musafir AND *FATMA* , agree with me. Um sister Nomee, Yes sister maybe we dont lack aqeedah and muhabbat, however as brother musafir mentioned, we lack the every day life rules and regulations.. Come on the streets of Blackburn, and ask a 15year old sunni the ghusal method or wudhu method, and then compare him with a 7/8 year old najdi half his age. I can bet you they will know better. Sister our alims in this country arent doing well enough to be honest as brother Musafir mentioned. Um.. these najdis know that they are producing their 'alims' so much that they tried to pass a law in the 1990's that no religious scholar should be given visa to preach islam, as they will produce their british based scholars. Um, and sister Aqsa Anjum, No sorry I meant guys as in everyone.. as in all the people on this forum.. lol . As for you giving proofs for milaad yes that is fine I agree with them. But you are missing my point. I am for milaad, I am just saying that instead of spending all money on decorations why dont we give some money to the masjid/madrassahs maybe even on the day of milaad. EVERYONE and sister Bintyhawa: WHAT I AM SAYING IS THAT MAYBE IF WE ALL SAVE £20 FROM PUTTING UP LESS DECORATIONS, RATHER THEN OVER DOING THEM, AND ALL THEM £20'S MOUNT UP FOR EXAMPLE, E.G. 20 PEOPLE SAVE £20 AND GIVE TO A MADRASSAH, =£400, WE COULD BUY BOOKS ON FIQH AND GIVE THEM OUT TO 100 STUDENTS, WHO COULD LEARN SOME FIQH. AND MAYBE WE COULD DO THIS IN THE OCCASION OF MILAAD, AND THEN THIS WILL COME UNDER MILAAD TOO, THEREFORE STILL KEEPING THE SUNNAT OF THE BUZURGAN-E-DEEN ON SPREADING HAPPINESS ON MILAAD. Brother MusafirJazakallahu khayrun, I didnt know that, (meray toray se ilm mei izafa ho gaya hai) thanx, Inshallah that is something we should promote then. Sorry i didnt know. *Haha Knew you'd click on this thread* Did you really now? lol.. well you can all guess as I PM'ed nearly all the active users.

Instead of saving about 400 on milad shareef(once a year).. and reducing the suwab that we may get.. ...shouldnt we try to save money on everyday stuff.. we waste our money in so many ways.. I think we should start with that.. for example.. buying new cloths/new jewelry.. when its not even necessary.. ..eating out... wasting food.. eating more then you need... ..wasting our money at marriage ceremony.. etc these were just few examples.. and I'm sure there are more.. why dont we start with that.. on this way we can save more then 400 once a year.. and still if thats not enough then we can think about saving money from milad decoration..etc
