Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
Hope your well maulana sahib.
I have a question regarding the beard and trimming it. I f ones beard is from one side big and short from the other side can he trim it to make the size equal. It will be good if you could give the answer with sayings and teachings from all the four imams and not just hanafi. Also can this person then lead salah?
Jazakallah Khayrun for answering my question in advance.
*By the way Maulana Sahib the beard is not yet a fistfull.
Wasalamu Alaykum

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu All Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa aalihi wa Sallam) Trimming the beard should only be done, once the beard is a fistful meaning that it conforms to the sunnah of the Beloved Messenger Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam's sunnah. This is the only reason why we keep the beard, because it is the sunnah of all the prophets, and that we intend to keep this sunnah live. Once this intention has been established, it is up to ourselves to look after it, to groom it, to oil it, and to trim it. There is no meaning to having the sunnah if the above criteria is not met. In other words, if the person had a fistful beard, and by accident he trimmed one side of it shorter than the other, then it is best left, until it grows equal in size to the other part, as to trim it would be to cut off the sunnah of the Beloved Messenger Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam, and it is stated by He Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam Himself, that He who steers away from my sunnah is not from amongst one of us. So maybe you may want to rephrase your question, as the imams of all four schools, particularly the Hanafi have similar opinions on keeping the beard, whereas they differ in cutting it, in addition to this they have not said much about the negligence of a person who has cut it from one side, more than the other, and whether he can lead the prayer in this state or not. Please post back by rephrasing your question, and I will do my best to asisst you. Jazak'Allah for your question. Wallahu A'lamu Biththawaab M. Waseem Ashrafi
