Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu I found my Sheikh (may Allah (azza wa jall) preserve him) after reading a book of the discourses of my Murshid Paak Sheikh Abdul Qadir al Jilani Radi Allahu anhu, which my Sheikh translated. Plus i agree with Sister hajannaqshbandi, 'I firmly believe that one does not choose his Peer Sahib, rather they choose their mureeds! '

The Pir is Popular with many Mureeds plus his forefathers were Pirs as well (so he cant be fake) He was a Sayyad Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuSister Muskaan, the forefathers being Pirs and the noble blood lineage of someone do not guaranty that one is not a fake pir. We must be very careful about these two factors because several people have been lured by these and it was too late when they realized that those whom they thought to be right because of their noble blood lineage and ancestors being Pirs turned out to be frauds and self declared pir and also give free way to their nafs by resorting to pitiful and cheap tactics to lure their victims, especially women. A true Pir never begs his mureed to believe that he's true by shedding crocodile tears and saying that if he's wrong in what he's doing and making the mureed do as odds, then Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala will punish him. A true Pir never asks for money from his mureeds under the pretext of giving them to the poor. A True Pir never compels his mureeds to support him to such extent that he is told not to care for his family even though they are facing problem due to the fact that the mureed is spending a lot of money on the pir to keep him happy. Sadly there are people who stoop to that level by using the name of their ancestors and their blood lineage as shield to fool people. Don't fall in the trap of such low category people by taking their ancestors and blood lineage as reference. It's hard to believe but it's true and not all are the same. Remember, only the Ambiya Alayhimus Salaam are free from their nafs and be careful of the younger generation whose grandfathers were Pirs and their blood lineage is noble. To recognize them, analyze if their doings are according to Shariah or not. If they are according to shariah, then they are true. On the contrary they are just fake pirs. Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuSorry my meaning is something else. I said not all are the same. I was only pointing out that we must not base on the ancestors and noble lineage as there are fakes (especially the younger generation) who hide behind their ancestors name and noble lineage. What we must look for as main factor is whether he follows Shariah and if he doesn't then he's fake even though his ancestors were Pirs and his lineage Noble. Such people exist even in UK, I won't mention name/s but if you ever hear about it remember what I said.

yes brother that is what i meant plus as you said majority of us have limited knowledge on this topic "The fact that he is kamil is because he has stayed steadfast upon his forefathers ways, I think that is what you meant anyway. "

i did istekehara. everytime i do it i always see the same shaykh, so there must b something about him, d fact that ive been guided to him by Allah is the most important thing for me.
the fact that his not on the look out for mureeds, but ppl r being guided 2wards him really makes me feel blessed in having finally found somebody to help me travel down this path. his knowledge in shariah and tariqat is incredible. so yeah my criteria is istekhara

Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
for me it was family peer as my husband really introduced me to my peer o murshid even though i had grown up watching his taqreer's on the video they always seemed like such a great personality.
all the options apply to my peer but i think the greatest factor was that he was also my husbands peer so i wanted the same one especially as they are such a great person and have done so much for deen.
