Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
What is everyones opinions on this hadith from Muslim.
Whoever eats or drinks from gold or silver utensils, is indeed filling his stomach with the fire of hell. (Muslim).
What about the pots and pans we cook from, theyre mostly all silver, and occasionally we use silver knives, forks and spoons when not having rotis ?

Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu, I agree most pots for instance are either aluminium or stainless steel etc... not actually silver, the same goes for most cutlery, there are those people with silverware in which case I'd avoid eating from it. Who would want to fill their belly with the fire of hell Just because something looks silver doesn't actually count, at least that's what i've been told. Fi Amanillah ;D

Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu,
Most people who do have real silver cutlery (never heard of of real silver/gold utensils!), usually keep it for show and it's usually an antique set.

There's nothing wrong with eating with a knife and a fork or a spoon.
But agree that most of the utensils used are stainless steel - you usually know the silver cutlery from the rest because they're a lot more expensive.

Totally agree with you sister, Most pots and pans are stainless steel, and back home they are copper and aluminum. ( Never heard of silver pots or pans?) The real silver cutelry are mostly used in rich aristocrats family who can afford butlers and servants to polish them as they would need a polish after every use. A good thread though and the hadith pointed out is a good reminder if anyone who was thinking of getting a real silver set of cutelry.

I'm sure you have been using stainless steel dishes brother as most of us do. The english language can be confusing at times, the colour in fact for these pots and pans and cutlery is grey but because its shiney we say silver same with gold and shiney yellow.

I dont think we nedd to take it that far bro, i dont think anyone is rich enough here to have real silver or gold cutlery never mind knives and forks. It is haram to have anything made of pure silver and gold apart from jewellery for our dear sisters.

Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu I can see a time in the future when most western born muslims will eat from only spoons and forks. The habit has started already with less cooking at home, more eating out, takeaways, restaurants etc. Knives and forks is a just a step in that direction.
