Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam The reward a person gets for sitting i'tikaf is stated in the following ahadith: Ibn-e-Majah Radi Allahu anhu relates a hadith through Hadrat Ibn-e-'Abbas Radi Allahu anhu where he states that the Beloved Messenger of Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam has stated, "The person performing itikaf remains free from sins and he is indeed given the same reward as those who do good deeds (in spite of not having done these deeds). This hadith mentions two great benefits of itikaf. The first is that the person performing itikaf avoids sins. The world around us is full of temptations and more often than not one falls into them. To commit sins in this blessed month is indeed a great injustice to ourselves. Through remaining secluded in the masjid, one completely avoids the temptation of doing a sin. Another benefit is that when one is secluded in the masjid, one is apparently at a disadvantage by not being able to perform certain good deeds like joining in funeral prayers, attending burials, visiting the sick, etc. But according to this hadith, one is rewarded for even those deeds which he could not perform as a result of his itikaf. Imam Baihaqi Radi Allahu anhu, relates through Hadrat Imam Husayn Radi Allahu ta'ala anhu, that the Messenger of Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam has stated that the person who sat in i'tikaf for a period of ten days, is like he who performed two 'umrahs, and two Hajj. May Allah make it possible for us to fully benefit from itikaf.Jazak'allah for your question. Wallahu A'lamu BiththawaabM. Waseem Ashrafi
