assalamou alaikoum..
When Hazrat Moosa (alayhis 'salam) was asked to throw his aasa in the sea, did the sea opened at the first throw or not? One of my friend told me that the sea did not opened at the first throw.
My question are, 1. is my friend right? 2. if it is 'yes', then why did the sea not open at the first throw? 3. is there any mention in what country was this happened and what sea was it?

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuPraise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam)Jazak'allah for your question. According to the famous books of ' riwayah', there is no mention of whether the sea opened up at the second throw of the staff of Moses (alayhis 'salam). However, what we do know is that it was thrown once, and at that instance, the sea made a way for the 'Bani Israel' to cross. Besides this, the staff of Moses (alayhis 'salam), was known as a miracle, from which many miracles had appeared. It is virtually impossible, that an attempt for a miracle to be performed is exercised, yet the miracle does not happen. Certainly, in cases of the Ennobled Ambiya', this is true, and if many other attempts were made, and the miracle did not occur, then people in that time would have regarded it as magic. The country that this occurance took place, is now known as modern day Egypt, and it was the famous river Nile, in which this miracle took place. May Allah the Almighty give us all the tawfiq, to understand the power (ikhtiyar), that Allah the Almighty has bestowed, upon His chosen serveants. (Amin)Wallahu A'lamu BiththawaabM. Waseem Ashrafi
