Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim. Wa'laykum-as-Salaam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakaatuhu. There are three main types of Hajj, known as the 'qiran', the tamattu', and the 'ifrad'. The 'qiran', is the type of hajj, where both your 'umrah' and your hajj are intended for. This had been performed by the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon Him), according to a hadith, by Abu 'Abdullah Ansari, in Ahmad. Also the qur'an states: 'wa atimmul hajja wal umrata lillahi' 'and complete the hajj and the umarah, for Allah'. The tamattu' is to perform the umrah in the days of hajj, and then to wear the 'ihram' for hajj, even if he had circumambulated the 'ka'ba, less than four times. Regarding this type of hajj the qur'an says: 'fa mann tamatta'a bil umrati ilal hajja fa mastaysara minal hadyi' 'and whoever returned from the umrah towards the hajj, must make a sacrifice'... These are the two main types of hajj, the main one being the qiran, which is the simpler and most common one. I hope that Allah the Almighty will one day take us all to perform a hajj, and to see His House. Wallahu a'lamu Biththawaab, M. Waseem Ashrafi.
