I have a question to ask you. the first is that someone I know planned to go to haj. 2 months before going she stopped breastfeeding her baby who was( 1 and half years old.) who was allergic to formula milk and had to have soya milk. she had already been to haj twice. Last time she left her children they were withdrawn and upset eventhough they were looked after by aunties etc. Is it islamic to have stopped her child breastfeeding for her desire to go to haj. Is there an overiding duty to her children?

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam Jazak'allah for your question. There are no over-riding duties, as all duties go hand in hand. Had it been the first time she was going to perform Hajj, I could have seen the room for which exception could have been made, however, she could have taken her child with her to Hajj, and not neglected the child, even though he was breastfeeding. May Allah the Almighty grant us all the permission of attending Hajj, and may He steer us away from neglecting our outstanding duties which we may have had, Amin.Wallahu A'lamu BiththawaabM.
