Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu

The Quraysh womans punishment.

A muslim woman from an important family of the tribe of Quraysh was caught for theft in Madina. She was brought before the Prophet [may Allah bless him and grant him peace]. He (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) had to punish her for her crime.

The muslims of Quraysh found it very difficult that a noble woman from Quraysh should be punished like an ordinary criminal. They wanted to save her from punishment. But no one was brave enough to ask the Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) to forgive her.

They thought a lot and then decided to approach Usama the son of Zayd, [may Allah be please with them both]. Zayd (Radi Allahu anhu) had been the beloved slave of the Noble Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) and one of the very first people to accept Islam. The Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) had freed him. The Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) loved Usama (Radi Allahu anhu) as much as he did his own grandsons Hasan and Hussain [may Allah be pleased with them both].

Usama (Radi Allahu anhu) agreed to talk to the Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) about the woman and ask him to forgive her.

When Usama (Radi Allahu anhu) met the Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) he told him the reason for the visit. The Noble Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) told him that if his own dear daughter Fatima (Radi Allahu anha) had committed the crime he would still have to punished her too. He wanted Usama (Radi Allahu anhu) and all the muslims to know that no one can escape when it is the matter of Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) justice.

A wonderful story and a Important Hadith Shareef hajra, and a very good moral and lesson for us all!

What this story tells us is that stealing is a very big sin, and no matter what or who you are, you can not get away from it, in Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) court of Law.
The people thought that because the Quraish woman was from a
high important family, then she will get pardoned.
But Our Beloved Prophet Muhammad (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) has shown us, that status does not count and we are all equal in front of Almighty Allah, whether it was a king or a poor beggar who committed the crime the punishment should be the same.
A thief's repentance is of no use unless he/she returns the stolen property to the owners.
In case he/she does not have the property itself or enough money to pay for it, he must obtain the forgiveness of the owners.

This is one thing that Shaykh-ul-Islam Madani mian has just had to deal with ...Shariah before family. Some say a difficult decision but to Shaykh-ul-Islam its black and white!!

Shows the taqwa and true personality of one of the worlds leading alims. May Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) elevate his status even higher.

Good post Sister thankyou for sharing it. The thing that gets me is our punishments are seen as barbaric to the western world now. It's as if they think we are cruel people for having such punishments. Then we tend to get defensive when questioned about them? I say these are Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala)'s laws and punishments and I cannot question them, but they are aimed at deterring people from committing crimes, they're not there because we want to hurt people.
