Palestinian officials have said the death toll since the Israeli assault on Gaza was launched has climbed above 1,000. The Hamas-controlled Health Ministry in Gaza said 1,010 Palestinians had been killed and 4,700 wounded by Israeli forces in 18 days of fighting. Activists claim that hundreds of civilians are among the dead. Israeli officials have given no firm casualty toll for Palestinians but say troops have killed hundreds of militants. At least 10 people, including at least four militants, were killed on Wednesday, medics said. Bodies were also retrieved from past attacks The Israeli military said its aircraft bombed about 35 tunnels under the Gaza Strip's border with Egypt and also struck Hamas police headquarters in the Israeli-encircled city of Gaza, eight squads of gunmen and weapons storage facilities. Six Palestinian militants and four civilians were killed in the Israeli attacks, medical workers said. Progress was reported in talks on an Egyptian proposal to end the hostilities. The deal would see a temporary ceasefire, followed by a long-term truce and the opening of Gaza's border crossings in the presence of officials from the Palestinian Authority of President Mahmoud Abbas. Nine Israeli human rights groups condemned Israel's offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip for causing unprecedented suffering to civilian residents. In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Defence Minister Ehud Barak and the army's top brass, the nine rights groups said civilians in Gaza were being subjected to "extreme humanitarian distress". "The level of harm to the civilian population is unprecedented," they wrote, accusing troops of "making wanton use of lethal force which has to date caused the deaths of hundreds of uninvolved civilians." Polls show that more than 90 per cent of the Israeli public support the Gaza offensive. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/israel/4240950/Palestinian-death-toll-in-Gaza-over-1000.html

Harry sorry over using racist term Prince Harry has apologised for using the term "Paki" about a member of his platoon. A statement from St James's Palace said he did so three years ago as a nickname about a friend and without any malice. The News of the World said he had been caught on video using the term about an Asian Army colleague. The newspaper said Harry had called the soldier "our little Paki friend". The trainee officer - identified as "Ahmed" - was unaware of the racist comment as officer cadets made the recording, it added. In a separate incident, Harry, about to start training as a combat helicopter pilot, is heard calling another officer cadet by a derogatory term, the newspaper said. The video reportedly shows Harry when he was on manoeuvres while still an officer cadet at Sandhurst military academy. The story also says the Prince is filmed being disrespectful to his grandmother the Queen, the Commander in Chief of the British Army, in front of other cadets. With his Army friends watching on, he is filmed making a joke call to her, saying: "Granny I've got to go, got to go, send my love to the Corgis and Grandpa." Harry and the other cadets were on their way to exercises in Cyprus when he made the racist comment during filming in the airport departure lounge, the story says. The full statement from St James's Palace reads: "Prince Harry fully understands how offensive this term can be, and is extremely sorry for any offence his words might cause. There is no question that Prince Harry was in any way seeking to insult his friend." www.dailypost.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/2009/01/10/harry-sorry-over-using-racist-term-55578-22666267/is he really racist? course he is they all are, hes upset that hes been exposed

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/7809371.stmthis is interesting Propaganda war: trusting what we see?By Paul Reynolds World affairs correspondent, BBC News website Israel has tried to take the initiative in the propaganda war over Gaza but, in one important instance, its version has been seriously challenged. The incident raises the question of how to interpret video taken from the air. Israel released video of an air attack on 28 December, which appeared to show rockets being loaded onto a truck. The truck and those close to it were then destroyed by a missile.

Bin Laden is just a goat scape. He is what he is today because of the yanks. They armed him, they raised him and now they have closed the book on him.
Youll find clean shaven Bin Laden working as a forecourt attendant in some downtown gas filling station in massachuchets.

My sentiments also. I recall Hadrat Allama Shah Ahmad Nurani Sahib Rahmatullahi 'alayh since I was in my early teens. Also fortunate to attend the Hijaz conference at Wembley arena, many moons ago, organised by World Islamic Mission.
Mashallah, in my mind that was a monumental and special event the likes of which we have never seen in the UK. To see the Ahle Sunnah scholars displaying unity on one stage was special. I wasn't there and I've been wondering if there's a video of this event available somewhere.
I wouldnt mind if a dvd was available of this blessed event.

Israeli F-16 bombers have pounded key targets across the Gaza Strip, killing more than 200 people, local medics say. Most of those killed were policemen in the Hamas militant movement, which controls Gaza, but women and children also died, the Gaza officials said. About 700 others were wounded, as missiles struck security compounds and militant bases, the officials added. Israeli PM Ehud Olmert said the operation "may take some time"- but he pledged to avoid a humanitarian crisis. "It's not going to last a few days,'' he said in a televised statement, flanked by Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni. Israel said it was responding to an escalation in rocket attacks from Gaza and would bomb "as long as necessary". They were the heaviest Israeli attacks on Gaza for decades. More air raids were launched as night fell. Staff at the main hospital in Gaza say operating rooms are overflowing, it is running out of medicine, and there are not enough surgeons to cope. The raids came days after a truce with Hamas expired. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/7800985.stm

Jeddah police bust fake Haj companies www.arabnews.com/?page=1§ion=0&article=117026&d=6&m=12&y=2008Arab News JEDDAH: Jeddah police, immigration authorities and Haj Ministry officials have shut down four fake Haj companies that had taken money from a large number of people on promises that they would be smuggled into the holy cities during the annual pilgrimage without the required Haj permits. A source at the Jeddah police, who did not want to be named because he was not authorized to speak to the press, said these fake Haj operators were scamming residents out of hundreds of thousands of riyals. These racketeers had promised illegal residents that they would be smuggled into the cities without Haj permits. One of the operators was busted in Jeddah's Al-Aziziyah district, an enclave of Pakistani and Indian residents. Three men of South Asian origin were arrested. Police said they had turned their apartment into an office. Police confiscated SR350,000 in cash and pamphlets and other printed materials advertising Haj tour services. In another place in Aziziyah, a man was operating as a Haj tour agent from a restaurant. He was charging SR4,000 per person. The third bust took place at an undisclosed district in south Jeddah where a women's clothing store had been converted into an illegal Haj tour office. Police there seized SR115,000 in cash that had been collected from 30 people seeking to perform Haj without permits. In Al-Jamia, also located in south Jeddah, four men of Asian nationality were operating an illegal Haj tour office from an apartment. They had collected more than SR300,000 from 330 people. Police there found 145 forged Haj permits. Police had warned Saudis and residents in the Kingdom not to go to Haj tour offices that were located inside residential homes. All legitimate Haj tour operators have licenses that they can show to customers. To pre-empt illegal trafficking of pilgrims, the Saudi authorities step up vigilance during the Haj season at the entry points of the holy cities.

Salam, i think sometimes people have shaked with one hand but they might not agree with it, if someone only puts one hand out its not easy then to shake it with 2 all of the time.
It would be interesting to ask this question to shaykh Yaqoubie and Shaykh Habibi of their opinions. i think you could be surprised.
