Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu I would like to ask, why my screen freezes for no reason once in a while. The only way i can resolve the situation is by rebooting my pc until it happens again the following month. By the way i do have Norton Anti-Virus and run a full pc scan every week. Any advice appreciated.

After the servicing, it hasn't frozen since. Try that

I think you may have too much spyware, try downloading the google pack and run Adaware, or wait for the next freebie!
Also you may have to format your PC. It is recommended to format your PC atleast once a year to clean up the registry and hardrive which do get quite fragmented.
Plus do a defrag of your drives every 2 weeks inshallah. If no one knows how to do that I'll give guide once i get home, at uni right now !

Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
Heres the guide on how to defrag for those that aren't sure:
1. Go to Start > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter
2. Click the disk defragmenter and the defrag window should open.
3. Select the drive you want to defrag by clicking on it (normally the c drive).
4. Click defragment. The time it takes depends on how fragmented your hardrive is and how good your PC specs are. Once finished your PC should be slightly faster and keep this up every 2 weeks inshallah.
P.s. it would be much better with screenshots, anyone know how I can paste them in? ]

P.s. it would be much better with screenshots, anyone know how I can paste them in? ] If you know how to do a screenshot, use imageshack (a free picture hosting site) to upload it here www.imageshack.us/ Also see this thread about uploading images ashraf786.proboards15.com/index.cgi?board=guest&action=display&thread=1139017452If you dont know how to do a screenshot ... To create a screenshot follow these steps:The first step is to create the windows that you want to capture and leave them up on the screen. Just to the right of your keyboard, you should see three groups of keys. The lower set of keys usually is a group of arrow keys. Above that is usually a set of some six keys that are labeled "Insert," "Home," "Page Up," etc. Above that should be three keys that have rather odd labels - like Pause/Break and ScrLk. One of those keys should be labeled PrtScrn/SysRq. Pressing Alt-PrintScreen (Alt-PrtScrn) places an image of the frontmost window on the clipboard. Pressing PrintScreen by itself places an image of the entire desktop on the clipboard. If you press PrtScrn/SysRq, nothing will appear to have happened. However, your computer just took a snapshot of its screen and stored that picture on its clipboard, much as it stores information that you cut and paste. Open MS-Paint. (From Start/Run, issue the command "mspaint".) Create a new empty image, and use Edit/Paste to bring in the screenshot you just took. (If the screenshot is smaller than the default Paint canvas, you will end up with white areas. Start over: create a new empty image, change its dimensions to 1x1, and Paste again. The canvas will grow for the Paste, but it doesn't shrink.) Use MS-Paint to Save As, using PNG as the file format (it is superior to all the rest).

Ohh! forget to mention that when the screen does freeze up the error message tells me its something to do with my browser settings ''hungapp'' .. internet explorer ?!? Will let you know exactly if and when it re-occurs.

I personally recommend Disk Keeper version 9 (pro edition). The algorithm that the program uses allows for much faster defragmentation. Also check your resources that the pc is using. Check the 'total commit charge' and the 'total physical memory' (on windows task manager pressing ctrl, del and esc to bring it up). If the commit charge total exceeds total physical memory then the system is using the hdd for virtual ram as your pc hasnt enough ram to run everything properly. Also look at the cpu idle state. If its in the high 90's then thats healthy, if theres a process taking up 100% of cpu resources then theres a glitch. You can normally run a diagnostic start up via msconfig at the 'run' prompt. You can also disable/enable startup services to help further alleviate problems. I must further tell you that certain device drivers also carry with them programmes that run in the background as spyware (logitech cameras have 'backweb.exe' running in the process. Its generally accepted as not spyware but you just never know. Spybot 1.4 is a good program to use. Get it from www.download.com. Reformat your hdd and reinstall your operating system and make a note of what programs you install and check to see how they behave.
