Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
When you connect to the pc for downloading your recording, is it safe to do it on windows media player or should i get other better software. I eventually would like all my recordings saved onto dvd.

i think you can download it on to quicktime too, mt friends did it at uni, but make sure you have enough space to save it on, because it takes up a lot of room

weel you should have ideally got some software with the video camara, however there are many available commercially. You can use WMP cos it's free but there are many other software that are free aswell and much easier to use. Try here, tou'll find lots of useful articles/guides: www.videohelp.com/capture#9;48

Assalamu Alaikum
I always use Window Movie Maker (cos its bundled in free with XP and cos its the easiest to use).
I use it to capture the film from my camcorder and also use it for its easy editing functions.
Then i use Nero to burn it to DVD. I've never had any problems with this process.
If this is what you want to do and need help with it, let me know and i'll post the full process on this thread.

Assalamu Alaikum
Sorry for the delay in replying. My "tutorial" has turned out to be quite lengthy, but i'm sure i've not missed anything. I'm usuing Windows Movie Maker 5.1 and Nero 6.6.016.
Connect Firewire to Camcorder and PC. Set the Camcorder to its VCR/Playback mode. XP will automatically detect your camcorder.
Capture Process
Dialogue box Digital Video Device will appear, select “Capture Video” and click OK.
Windows Movie Maker will automatically open with Video Capture Wizard. Choose a filename and location. Click Next. Video Settings – Other Settingsand then DV-AVI (PAL) , then Click Next. Capture Method – This is up to you, capture the whole tape to your Hard Drive or you can forward and rewind your camcorder manually to the bits you want. If you capture the whole tape, it will take up a lot of space but it’ll be easier to edit. Also if you capture the whole the tape, then don’t tick “Show Preview” – save your processor power. Then click NEXT. DV Capture Progress, tick the Create clips when wizard finishes, this will automatically create and display all the clips on your tape, on the Window Movie Maker Collection section. If you don’t tick it, it will just display 1 clip in the Collections when completed. Your camcorder will already have begun to rewind itself by now (if not already fully rewound) and then sit back and let the computer do all the work. When it is done, all the clips are displayed in order, in the Collections section and the beginning of the film will be displayed on the Windows Media Player.
Editing
Drag the clips in the order that you want them into the boxes in the Storyline and you can edit as you wish using the functions of the 2.Edit Movie section.
Finishing Movie
Select Save to my computer. In the Save Movie Wizard choose a filename and location for your edited movie, then click Next. Click other settings and then select DV-AVI (PAL) –( NOTE THE MOVIE FILE SIZE IN THE BOTTOM RIGHT OF THIS WIZARD, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH SPACE TO SAVE YOUR MOVIE). Click NEXT and you movie will begin to save to your computer in AVI format. You may then close Windows Movie Maker – you will asked “Do you wish to save the changes you made to the project”, if you save it, it will save it as a file with all your editing, so that you can open the this file again alter the editing you have done.
Burning With Nero
Open Nero, choose DVD, go to Photo and Video and select Make Your Own DVD-Video. Now select Add Video Files and from the browser window, select the movie you made (.avi file) and it then should appear in the Contents wizard. Click Next, will take you to the Menu section, where you can create a menu. After you’ve created a menu, click NEXT to preview your movie. Click Next to start burning your DVD. Select your burner from Burn To and select your burning speed from Record Settings and then click Burn.
Hope this helps.
