Plasmas and lcd's are a good buy. Just look for the 'hd tv' sign to make sure you are future proofing your viewing pleasure.
Also to look out for hd dvd (15gb capacity approx), blu ray disc (27gb capacity approx) and the holographic disc (potential unlimited capacity - maybe going up to googleplex or google plexplex in capacity)

Nah! Dont work in a tv shop. Ive been into computers since i were around 7 years old. Im also certified by Cisco Systems as I completed my 'IT Essentials part 1' course of computing. I never bothered with part 2 as that covered the Linux kernel and im not a linux fan. HDTV has around 4 times the resolution of sdtv. Just make sure recording equipment is up to scratch for it too. Otherwise loss of fidelity may occur. For further reading :- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-definition_television

Sorry let me correct my statement...
Its not googleplex its 'googol' ie 1 with a hundred zeros next to it or 10 to the power of 100 googolplex is 10 to the power of googol (10-10-100)
Such is the capacity potential of the holographic disk. For regular users capacity will start at around a mear 30gb.
Thats why those that have purchased consoles such as the new xbox 360 will be disappointed as the disc drive will be upgraded to either hd-dvd or blu-ray disc depending on which format Microsoft will support. The PS3 will be supporting blu-ray disc (last I read)
Things can change though.
