Is there such a thing that will copy/scan text from books and then write them onto ms word ?

i think you are referring to a process called Optical Character Recognition (OCR), which is performed by using software (eg Paperport) which usually comes bundled with a Scanner. It allows you to scan a document and then edit the text and save the document.

the OCR sotware recognises the text from a scanned page and you can transfer the text into MS Word, edit it and then save it as a Word document. Google around for OCR software, there's all sorts available
