I'm sure many of you have come across files that wont be opened by windows media player and the like. The main reason for this is that files come in many different formats MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg etc and most players wont support all of them. VLC media player supports a wide range of file formats and I'm sure will play almost anything, give it a try: www.videolan.org/vlc/
