Just a quick message to everyone who may not have had the chance to find out but since ive done it I will tell you that going to dual core processors is a sensible option.
I personally have an AMD 3800+ x2 dual core processor (2.0ghz actual clock speed) and Ive noticed much better response from my pc at increased load than previous (amd 2600+ 2.1ghz actual clock speed)
If anyone wants an improvement in their pc's and not wait for programs to load etc then get, when appropriate, a dual core cpu to help with improved efficiency.
Those who are shouting 'Conroe' also get the same advice. Whichever platform you choose, dual core procssors will improve your regular computing tasks.
jazakallah

Its a dual core 2ghz cpu rated at an intel (netburst architecture equivalent) 3.8ghz speed. Though nowhere near it in reality. Dual core processors are great for multitasking as a fair amount of resources is given to processes in both cores.
Thats why the mhz game has stopped and mutli core battle has begun.
The skt 939 range that I have is out of date as amd have stopped production of these processors but for what i use it for its more than adequate.
the core 2 duo that intel have released have copied the same architecture that amd employed in their athlon xp range which is why amd had the lead in the cpu battle for the last 5 years. netburst never really took off due to limitations on the design. now they have the amd reference architecture and reduced the design from 90nm to 65nm intel have got on to surpass amd in performance. Example is the E6600 from intel, its faster than the highest chip amd has for only half the price (fx-62)
