Get your printers ready got a recipe for you ladies! You might already know this recipe..... but it's really tasty so I thought I'd share it! Aloo tikka/Fried Potato cakes Ingredients Potatoes, boiled and mashed Green chillies 1- 2 chopped Salt and Red chillie powder to taste Corriander leaves chopped Onions chopped Oil for frying Method - Mix the mashed potato with the green/red chillies, salt corriander and onions
- Form into small balls and then flatten to make little round shapes
- Heat oil for shallow frying, then place the potato cakes in the oil to fry till each side is golden brown
Serve with KETCHUP... or any other sauce.. they tase even better with white bread. These are handy if your not going to be at home to open your fast as they are still nice eaten cold so you can pack them in a little lunch box!

Aloo Tikka.......Yum! I think we've got a similar recipe called 'Bataka Wara' - that's in Gujarati, means 'Potato One's' ;D Unlike the above recipe, we don't flatten the balls, and we tend to dip then in a mixture made from gram flour, water and spices and then deep fry it. I think this mixture's similar to the one used for pakora's. They taste real nice, especially with a dip such a mint youghurt, or even just plain ketchup!

Salam everyone sorry been away for so long, pc problems just glad it seems all okay for Ramadan! Allah ka shukr heh Some nice recipes and tips. Where would we all be without the trusted potato. I am afraid only a little bit of experimenting this yr for me when the present lot of samosas and onion rings run out. Bought a lot of oven chips though and frozen chicken wings. One thing i have been experimenting though is on dips, ketchup is defintely out for health reasons, ive got several sauces, chilli and garlic to try out. Apart from that simple salads and vegetables are the flavour this year, easy to make, healthy and a winner in my house.

Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu, I,ll have to try the Aloo tika recipe sounds delicious I have one as well just made them yesterday. They are called Pockets. You make your mixture as you like everybody has different mixture's i,ll tell you mine. 1 pack of spring rolls. 2 carrots grated. 40z of cheese grated. 1lb of boiled potatoes mashed. 1 bunch of spring onions chopped. half a bunch of danya chopped. 6 green chilles chopped. 2 tablespoons of butter. salt and pepper to taste. Mix all your ingrediants up in a bowl. Cut your packet of spring roll in strips, same as a samoosa ribbon. I cut 5 strips out of 1 packet. Then you place one on top of each other like a ribbon ( square rather than a triangle) place a teaspoon of mixture on the ribbon then fold the first pastry on the right then the seconed on the left and so on , untill at the end you put the egg on and close. It should be a square shape and look like a pocket, its new and its something different, and my kids love them.

I have a tip! Fed up of the usual boring ketchup and the spicy sauces that just aren't right for your taste buds, but you still need a sauce with your samoosa's? Why not try spicing up the ketchup to your taste. What i do is squueze enough ketchup into a bowl, add some red chilli powder, paprika powder, pepper and some crushed chillies, mix it all up and you have your own spicy sauce! Everyone at my house always finish the bowl

I know garlic sauce is a big hit in many Indian and Pakistani households, and I assure you, the home made sauce tastes so much better than the ready stuff. It is very easy to make: All you do is add a little oil in a mixing bowl with some crushed garlic. Empty the contents of a jar of mayonnaise and mix. Now mix in some dried oregano and a little salt to taste, if necessary. The sauce will be quite thick so you may want to add some cold water to make it thinner, but don't add too much - you don't want it too runny. Now taste the sauce and add more garlic if needed.
