This thread has been chosen as "Thread of the Week" for the week ending 05.03.06
Assalamualikum Can sisters name any foods that are eaten or used because they are Sunnah of our Beloved Aqa (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) if you know you can also name their benefits too. ;D I shall start with OLIVE OIL (zaytoon) which can be used for muscular pain, dry/rough skin. If babies are teething if you massage Olive oil on thier heads teeth will come with ease inshallah. Come on sisters name some islamic foods Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu Thread modified to add "Thread of the Week" title.

Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu. Masha Allah! A great subject.
Honey
Honey is the sunnah of Our Beloved Nabi (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam). He loved honey, Sayyidah Zainab Binte Jahsh (Radi Allahu anha) used to give the Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) Honey every time he visited.
Its good for your skin, and very good for cold's and flu, taken with lemon in hot water. My mum's house they all have a bit in the morning for breakfast, on toast. Its good for cleansing your stomach. You can eat it or drink it.

Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu. Please excuse my ignorance but what is Kadoo shareef? I think Kadoo is what we Gujarati people call "Doodhi".....you know the green veg we sometimes find in the daar that we have at mosque niyaaz?? We sometimes have it with Kichri curry too at my house. I think they're from the same family Sr. Muslimah.
Must say, a fantastic thread. Fun as well as educational!! Well done Sr. Nomee.

Must say, a fantastic thread. Fun as well as educational!! Well done Sr. Nomee. Jazakh Allah Khair for that sister tasleem and sister muslimah. Yes doohdi, or should i say khadoo sharif is the sunnah of the Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) my mum always cooks in daal as well and she says that Our Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) loved eating it. Its amazing how one thing can have so much significance to so many cultures, and be called by so many names, yet the significance is linked by one thing and that is Our Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam). Vinegar is another of the Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) favourite. At my parents house they have to have it on the table, and it taste great with halim and bakra, as well as chips.

We often have it with haleem and chips of course but never bakra. Will have to try it one day. Thanks for the tip sis!

Kalonjee (onion seeds) are also sunnah whether in oil form or seed form wasalaam Kalunjee: You often find them in naan. The one's you get freshly baked at chapatti shops. We have a shop in Blackburn called 'The Chapatti Shop'. Lol. Thats where we get our naan from. My mum used to put onion seeds in our food too at one time, but it wasn't a big hit with my Brothers! But in naan, they actually do taste very nice.

Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu. anjir is sunnah as well it is similsr to date. I was just going to mention 'anjir' today. Anjir means Fig in English, and I especially like them in dried form. They taste delicious! Did you know, there is a Surah named after it?? In Surah Tin (wateene wazaytune...), the first verse begins with: "By the Fig and the Olive" (95:1)
