salaam sisters I know alot of households that cook extra food everyday and unfortunately it is not eaten and is binned Astagfirrullah. We should be careful on cooking excess food and then not wasting it we remember that we will be en countable for everything that we do/use cook and waste, on judgment day In my household food gets wasted is when I have guests around I cook extra rather than having less. On a day to day basis I cook enough chappattis that i know will get eaten. I see alot of chappattis been fed to the pigeons at the local park Food on the ground all the poor starving people/children in the third world countries that are starving to death. I see alot of water been wasted too, we make wudhu and let the tap run. we wash the dishes and the water is been wasted. We need a couple of sips of water yet the glass is full and then it goes down the drain. I have decided not to waste water too I will feed the plants rather than spilling the water down the drain. We must pray to Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) to give us the taufeeq to respect everything that he has created for us and not to waste food/water even clothes. Allah hafiz

Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu,You're absolutely right Sr. Nomee. Food gets wasted all the time in our homes. My mum feels upset about food being wasted and she always thinks about how it is better to live in places like India where you can easily give food away to the poor and needy. After dawats, such as when we've cooked for guests, we also have a lot of food left over. So we tend to place some in the fridge, ready to be warmed and eaten the following day and send the rest to our neighbours and cousins. However, before we send it to them, we call and ask whether they'd like some. To give someone food when they don't need/want it would beat the object - it would only end up in the bin! I like your idea about watering the plants with your left over water. We always do that with water that has been prayed fateha on, but never to normal water.

Allah hafiz Masha Allah well said sister nomee. An important topic, its true we don't value the barkat we have in food and water readily available to us. In the third world countries were poverty is rife and food is scarce its a farce how much we do take for granted our necessities. Drought ridden countries were rain is considered a Blessing and a survival for life, its shameful that we have so much yet are so ungrateful to Almighty Allah, when was the last time we thanked Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) for the rain and food and our clothing? It does make you think and reflect, and i too am very guilty of wasting and forgetting who is providing these essentials.

Allah hafiz Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu My nan does that and waters the plants. we used 2 feed the birds wiv r left over chaps, but not allowed here so we try not to waste. we dont buy in bulk or make more than we have 2, my nani uses a jug to do wuzu in an uses that jugful no more. a gud thread an makes us realise how much we do waste and how lucky we are.

One that has made me think twice, when you put it like that, I have always took it for granted especially the water coming out from our taps, flowing so freely, what would we do without such an essential commodity.

Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu.
This good to talk about. we have to be very careful with our water as we get so little of it and bath is filling a bucket and washing with that. food is never wasted and is always given to the fakir. fresh is made every day and little is made.
carriyying the motla fill with water is still done by the poorer in vilages. and sometimes women are carriying 3 times a day back and forward on theer head in the heat.
