Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu,
As humans, we seek ultimate pleasures in fulfilling our desires. There are people all around the world who have numerous amounts of desires they’d like to fulfil. However, they can’t. Why? Because they have been trained to be satisfied with what Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) has already blessed them with. They are not greedy and they actually hold these blessings close to them, always grateful towards The Provider. The value they hold for these things is so high that they are always found giving thanks to Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) and found never to be complaining about the wants and needs of their desires. These people, who are grateful for each and every thing Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) has bestowed on them, have the best insight and the best capability of perceiving the beauties and blessings of Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala).
This relates well to the recent tragedy that happened to our fellow brothers and sisters in South Asia. It’s amazing to see that our Muslim brothers and sisters have held on to the name of Islam and have not turned their backs from this Deen due to this tragedy.
We, living comfortably during this blessed month of Ramadan, have to learn a great lesson from this calamity that struck our fellow Muslim Ummah. We have to be reminded that true believers remain grateful to Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) even under the harshest conditions. We may be looking at the Ummah in South Asia and see the diminishing of the everyday blessings believers would enjoy. However, believers, who are able to perceive the good aspect of every event, tragedy, situation, see goodness in this too. Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) has told us that He will test people with fear, hunger and loss of wealth or life. True believers rejoice and feel grateful, in hopes that Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) will reward them with gifts of Jannah in return for the steadfastness they displayed during their test.
We have to keep in mind and reassure that we are aware that Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) does not impose on ANYONE more than he can bear. The persistence and submission of such awareness leads believers to patience and gratitude.
So, at the end of this, we see that it is an obvious attribute of believers to show unwavering dedication and submission. But what is the outcome of all of it? Allah promises to expand His blessings on His grateful servants both in this duniya and in the akhirah – What can be better than this…?
Hadrat Muhiyuddin Abdul Qadir Jilani (Rahmatallahi alayhi) stated:
Do not try to run away from trials and tribulations, but endure them with patience. They cannot be avoided, and there is nothing for it but to endure them with patience, how can you expect the whole of this world, and all that has been created therein, to undergo change and transformation just to suit your convenience? The Prophets are the best of all creatures, yet they have always had to suffer affliction and so it is for their followers, those who tread in their footsteps as they walk along their path, emulating their example.
