Concerning the Welfare of the Heart and Its Remedies, and the Corruption of the Heart and Its Ills
The welfare of the heart lies in sadness and anxiety, and its remedy in the continuous remembrance (dhikr) of God Most High. The corruption of the heart comes from joy in the world and con- tentment in the states (ahwal) of the ego, and its sickness is the avoidance of the remembrance of God and the turning to whatever distracts one from that remembrance.
Joy is to the ego what water is to the fish. The life of the fish is in water and if he stays on dry land he will not live. Similarly if the ego is denied the joys of the world, it will wither and become feeble, its power will decrease, its activity will diminish and cease--for sadness kills its life--until the heart rids itself of whatever took place in it before and the stains that ensued.
When the heart reaches God Most High, God revives it (ahyah). When God revives the heart, the ego experiences the life of the heart with the light of God Most High. Before, the heart was deadened with the delights and joys of the ego: when its owner tamed the ego and forbade it these joys, his Lord thanked him, because he has done battle for God (jahada fillah) with all his strength, and so God has guided his way as He has promised in His Revelation when He said: "Those who have striven for Us, We guide them to Us" [al-`Ankabut, 96].
Whoso desires the reward of God the Lord of Might and Majesty, let him keep to this battle, and let him be sincere in every matter in order to purify his worship.

Allah Ta'ala states in the noble Qur'an: "Undoubtedly, he attained to his goal who purified". (Al-A'la: 14) Which loosely translated means we must clean our impurities from our body thoroughly and regularly and clean our soul and heart with sincere and regular repentance. One other thing which will set you on the right path is acquiring knowledge from good shuyukh (teacher), because ilm (knowledge) quenches the thirst of the truthseeker.

Assalamu'Alaykum
To purify and cleanse ones heart on the path towards Allah, one needs to follow Sufism and to do that follow a pious Shaykh like Madani Miyan Damat Barkatuhum. Because these great scholars of tasawwuf focus purely on the union with God, nothing else around them matters. In fact, they prefer death over falling into even a minute sin.
I saw a holy man on the sea shore wounded by a tiger. No medicine could relieve his pain; He suffered much, but he nevertheless constantly thanked God, the most high, saying; "Praise be to Allah that I have fallen into a calamity and not into sin."

If you're in touch with your inner beauty, your outer beauty will be beautiful." Hazrat Ali-e-Murataza, may peace be upon him, said: No treasure is as plentiful as contentment and no wealth can overcome the feeling of being wretched and destitute to the extent of contentment. The one who is not greedy and is content with the income that meets the needs of his life has procured the means of his well-being and mental peace.

Ihsan and taqwa = piety = on the right path.

Remember Allah always and He will never forget you.
