D=DOME
Geometric designs may be used in the design of a mosque and achieve stunning effects both on the inside and outside of a mosque. From the earliest times, the Arabs have been extremely interested in shapes and mathematical designs.
Most mosques have the familiar features of the dome and the minaret. The dome is usually described as symbolising the universe.
Mosques are traditionally built of stone or brick in the form of a square with an open courtyard in the centre. Minarets rise from the front or the corners of the mosque. Here, the dome together with the four minarets is seen to represent the Five Pillars of Islam. In this case, the dome stands for the first pillar, which may be described as the dome of faith.
