Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhuim quite unsure about this to be honest with everyone it would be interesting to hear what the Imam would have to say on this topic. I understand that some sisters out of haya' (modesty) would prefer to do baiyah over the internet. If they were to do that then I would advise them to do a lot of research on their Kamil Wali. If I were to do baiyah I would personally have to see my shaykh for myself

Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
sorry Shah Saab.
Just 2 benefit of many is you get from doing Bayt with a pir face to face.1 is that you get to see a Valli ALLAh face to face and secondly like mentioned before it is the most awesome feeling in the world the tingling, nervousness, you are sweating and shaking, it is a once in a life time experience but ALLAH Hu Akbar it is well worth it.
Also a lot of sisters are talking about internet bayt but like Shah Saab mentioned women done Bayt with the sweetest and the most excellent Prophet Huzoor Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam. If the person is a pir then he will know the Sunnat way of performing a Bayt for women

Women are allowed to take Baya'h face 2 face. Read my post on Baya'h with evidence from Al-Quran and Hadith Mubaraka. Its just some people are making big issue out of it it by making irrelevant comments. JazakAllahu khayrun Yaa Siddiq-e-Akbar

You mean to say sister who took baya'h face to face dont have modesty.
What if there would have been no internet , this sister would have not taken baya'h.
I took baya'h face to face Alhumdullilah i have haya'h and do purda'h from ghair mehram.
Jazakallah

Interesting.
I agree that the pledging of allegiance on the net/phone has made it easier for our brother and sisters in finding and accepting a Spiritual guide. I agree with brother Hafeez that we must be absolutely sure and have enough knowledge about the Pir before hand ie in terms of authenticity and aqeedah etc.
What I do feel is that before this new technology took over our lifes our predecessors especially the righteous acutally struggled, strived and toiled in search for a Murshid. At times even waiting for years and years and years before seeking a Pir. But when the ultimate meeting does take place it is the more entralling, exciting, emotional and out of this world. I am not saying there is no ruhaniyat spirituality in internet or telephone bay'ah but it can never be the same as the Sunnah version is more rewardable, exalted and blessed.
I hope with tele & net bay'ah the practice does not become too common and open to abuse. There are certain ettiquettes one has to adhere before entering a path of sulukh. See previous links by Fana fil Shaykh or see the Tassawuf/sufism board.

Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
I was sat at one of the mehfils with Hazrat Saab and we were talking about why they (Huzoor Shaykh Ul Islam And Huzoor Ghazi E Millat)could not stay longer and the reply by one of the brothers was that we should be glad we have had the chance to see these Buzurgs cause in India there are people who live near them and they have never got to get the Buzurgs to come to their areas. So doing Bayt is excellent but if you do it by Internet when and how do you get to spend time with them

Personally , in my opinion, and this is just my opinion, Bayah over the internet takes the 'Spirit' out of Spirituality, there is nothing better then doing Bayah face to face and if thats not possible, it should be done through a Kalifah.
I for one (as many other millions) am so grateful that Hazrat Shaykh ul Islam, depsite his age and health, travels the world over and over, spreading the light of Islam, and giving his mureeds the chance to benefit from his presence, spiritually and mentally and making it easier to take Bayah, may Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala preserve and protect him always and safeguard his secrets - Ameen

Bayah thru letter or internet is jaiz and it is know as Usmani bayt because Hazrat Sayyedina Usman Radi Allahu anhu took bayah first thru letter later when he met beloved Prophet Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam he renew his baya'h by taking it thru daste mubarak of beloved Prophet Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam [/b] Yaa Hasan[/quote] Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem

As long as people dont do bait online because of convenience or comfort then there really shouldnt be a problem. Steps should be taken to do bait in front of their intended shaykh and if they are abroad then they must wait till they visit their country.
Patience and ihsan are keys to being a salik.

Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
Whichever way (comfort or not) one becomes mureed, i.e; through internet or face to face with the intended Shaikh, his bayat is jaiz. When one becomes aware of the importance of baiat, he must not delay in taking his bayat with the intended Shaikh. Whether online or face to face, the Shaikh knows, approves and takes the responsibilty of the mureed. As for online bayat it is in accordance with the approval of the Shaikh who takes the responsibility of the method.
One is a good salik only if he is able to see his shaikh in tasawwur. Many sincere Naqshbandi and Attari mureeds who have taken bayat online and have never met their respective Shaikh face to face are able to see their Shaikh in their ibadats while many are those who have seen their Shaikh several times and have not yet been able to see their respective Shaikh even once in their ibadats.
The key lies in the true love that the mureed has for his Shaikh and not whether he has taken bayat online or having not done it face to face. The case of Hazrat Uwais Qarni Radiallahu anhu is the best example to understand this fact.
May Allah Azzawajal fills the heart of all mureeds with love for their Shaikhs, that they may prosper in their ibadats. Ameen thumma Ameen.

Mmm interesting thread. How did the women in the time fo the Prophet Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam take bayah.Keep this in mind not all women had there face covered.
For those who want to protect there purdah by using the internet.(please dont get me wrong i am not against it but its something to think about)I have a question for you.How do you plan on learning from your Pir.Do you expect him to teach you via the internet..
eid mubarak to one and all

Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu ASALATU WASALAMU ALAYKA YA RASULLALLAH Salla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallam Interesting question. The matter of purdah is most of the time a personal choice if not a misconception about the observance of purdah before a Pir. To learn from one's Pir if one cannot meet him, there is better than the internet, it is regularly reciting the wazifa (with the proper method of recitation) obtained after one's bayat. Gradually when the mureed progresses he will be able to meet his Pir and learn from him spiritually. A Pir is not seperated from his mureed, there are certain knowledge that he also gives to the mureed via spiritual inspiration. When this happens the mureed who knows this fact wholeheartedly acknowledge with faith that it is his Pir who is responsible for this. Eid Mubaarak to you also and all as well .

Even if you never get a chance to do bait face to face or on the internet but say in your heart that they are the one for you then even that is bayt
