[glow=green,1,000]'Thread of the Week'[/glow] - Week ending 27th May www.islam786.org/silsilaeqadiriya.htmThe Shaykh's Life in BaghdadThrough the mists of legend surrounding the life of Shaykh 'Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani (Radi Allahu ta'ala anhu, it is possible to discern the outlines of the following biographical sketch: In A.H. 488, at the age of eighteen, he left his native province to become a student in the great capital city of Baghdad, the hub of political, commercial and cultural activity, and the center of religious learning in the world of Islam. After studying traditional sciences under such teachers as the prominent Hanbali jurist [faqiih], Abuu Sa'd 'Ali al-Mukharimi, he encountered a more spiritually oriented instructor in the saintly person of Abu'l-Khair Hammad ad-Dabbas. Then, instead of embarking on his own professorial career, he abandoned the city and spent twenty-five years as a wanderer in the desert regions of 'Iraq. He was over fifty years old by the time he returned to Baghdad, in A.H. 521/1127 C.E., and began to preach in public. His hearers were profoundly affected by the style and content of his lectures, and his reputation grew and spread through all sections of society. He moved into the school [madrasa] belonging to his old teacher al-Mukharimi, but the premises eventually proved inadequate. In A.H. 528, pious donations were applied to the construction of a residence and guesthouse [ribaat], capable of housing the Shaykh and his large family, as well as providing acommodation for his pupils and space for those who came from far and wide to attend his regular sessions [majaalis]. He lived to a ripe old age, and continued his work until his very last breath, as we know from the accounts of his final moments recorded in the Addendum to Revelations of the Unseen. In the words of Shaykh Muzaffer Ozak Efendi: "The venerable 'Abd'al-Qadir al-Jilani (Radi Allahu ta'ala anhu) passed on to the Realm of Divine Beauty in A.H. 561/1166 C.E., and his blessed mausoleum in Baghdad is still a place of pious visitation. He is noted for his extraordinary spiritual experiences and exploits, as well as his memorable sayings and wise teachings. It is rightly said of him that 'he was born in love, grew in perfection, and met his Lord in the perfection of love.' May the All-Glorious Lord bring us in contact with his lofty spiritual influence!"

It saddens me that today we regularly hear of shootings, bombings all around Ghaus E Azams mazaar in Baghdad. In fact even not that long ago werent american soldiers inside the mosque looking for so-called insurgents ? Pray that Allah Almighty protects this great saints Mosque and shrine and forces back the enemy of Islam out of Iraq.

Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Ajmeri, Shaykh Sayyid Hasan Sanjari (may Allah be pleased with him) known in the Indo-Pak subcontinent as Gharib Nawaaz in praise of Shaykh Sayyiduna Muhiyiddin Ghawth al-Azam Huzoor Pir Nur Abu Muhammad Abdul Qadir Jilani al-Hasani al-Husayni (may Allah be pleased with him).1. Yaa Ghawth-e-Mu`Azzem noor-e-Hudaa; Mukhtaar-e-Nabee Mukhtaar-e-Khudaa // Sultaan-e-Do'Alam Qutb-e-Ulaa Hayraan ze jalaalat ard-O-Samaa 2. Dar Sidq hama Siddeeq washee dar `adl O `adaalat chuu `umari // ay kaan e Hayaa uthmaan manshi maanind e `alee baa juud O sakhaa 3. dar bazm e nabee `aalee shaanee, sattaar e `uyuub e mureedaani // dar mulk e wilaayat sultaanee, ay manbay e fadl O juud O sakhaa 4. chuun paaye nabee shud taaj e sarat; taaj e hama `aalam shud qadamat // aqtaab e jahaan dar pesh e darat, uftaadah e chuu pash shaah O gadaa 5. kardaad maseeh ba murda rawaan, daadee tu ba deen e muhammad e jaan (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) // hama aalam muhiye deen goyaan, pur Husn O jaamalat gushta fidaa 1. O ye the Ghawth, thou art the light of guidance; the chosen one by Allah; the chosen one by Rasulallah sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam // The prince of the two worlds; an exalted Saint, the sky and the earth are in awe of thy grandeur. 2. In truth thou art like Hazrat Siddiq-e-Akbar [Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him)] and justice of thine is like Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) // Thy modesty, thy being demure is like Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) and thou art like Hazrat Imam Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) in generosity [that is thou art the among the foremost leaders of the Ahlus Sunnah; I have read a very good meaning of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaa-ah. it is said that following the Sunnah is following Rasulallah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam by jamaa-ah it means the jamaa-ah of these four blessed companions [radiyallahu anhum] 3. Thou hath a prominent standing in the presence of the Prophet alayhis salaam and thou art he who hides the sin of thy mureeds, followers (by seeking their pardon from Allah, doing istighfaar for them and inshaa Allah on judgment day, doing their shafaa'ah it is as good as hiding their sin); thou art the prince in the kingdom of Awlia, O ye the treasure of blessings and generosity! 4. As the foot of the Prophet is thy crown, thy foot is the crown of the world (remember the Shaykh said: qadami haadhihi ala raqabati li kulli waliyallah/this foot of mine is on the necks of Awlia?) // the high-ranking Awlia, the Aqtaab [pl. Qutb] come to thy door; and so do masters and so do the slaves! 5. Hazrat Maseeh alayhis salaam brought back the dead to life and [as his follower] thou art he who vitalized, resuscitated this religion of Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) // The world calls thee as Mohiy ad-Din - The Reviver of the religion; and they are enchanted by thy beauty! [One should note that here there are no parallels drawn with a Nabee; instead, there is a subtle idea expressed here: Hazrat Maseeh alayhis salaam is the one who shall revive the religion and he will be the last reviver of this religion. But by the virtue of his being a prophet he is greater than all the other revivers; yes, Hazrat Siddiq, Hazrat Farooq, Hazrat Uthmaan and Hazrat Ali [may Allah be pleased with them]were among the foremost revivers...wallahu a'alam] www.sunnirazvi.org/poetry/poems/chishti.htm

Some Miracles related to Ghous e Azam
Abdullah Tustari (Rehmatullah) said:
''Once Sayyedenaa Ghaus-ul-Azam had disappeared from the sight of the men of Baghdad. On enquiry it was learnt that his Holiness had been seen proceeding towards the Tigris (River). People proceeded towards that direction in search of him. I saw His Holiness walk over the water and come towards us. I also saw fishes come in large numbers to the surface of the water and kiss his feet and heard them say to him, 'Peace be on You'
It was the time of the midday prayers. Out of nowhere and suddenly appeared a big and heavy carpet, which spread itself in the air like a takht (plane) of Hazrat Sulaiman. It was of a green colour and was embroidered with silk and gold. After the carpet spread itself i saw a large crowd come and stand on the carpet. The persons appeared to be brave, but all of them were weeping with their heads bent down and all of them were quite silent. The appearance of one of the crowd was awe-inspiring and majestic. When the takbir was read out, Sayyedenaa Ghaus -ul-Azam stepped forward and led the midday prayers. The crowd and the men of Baghdad offered their prayers under the leadership of His Holiness. Whenever he said takbir the inhabitants of Arsh also repeated it.

groups.yahoo.com/group/sunnisevens/There was a very wise and influential priest in Baghdad who had many followers. This man had vast knowledge not only of the Judaic and Christian traditions but also of Islam. He knew Islam and the Holy Qur’aan and had great love and appreciation for the Prophet Muhammad Sallalahu alaihi wasallam. The caliph of the area respected the priest and hoped that he and his followers would become Muslims one day. Indeed, he was ready to accept the religion, except for one thing. That one thing that prevented him from becoming Muslim, which he could neither accept nor understand, was the physical ascension of the Prophet Muhammad Sallalahu alaihi wasallam to the Heavens during his blessed lifetime. The mind of the priest could not accept the ascension of the Prophet Sallalahu alaihi wasallam and his coming back to tell about it. Indeed, when the Prophet Sallalahu alaihi wasallam himself declared it the day after it happened, many ‘Muslims’ did not believe and left the religion. This then is a test of true faith, for the mind cannot conceive of such a thing. The caliph introduced all the wise men and teachers of his time to the priest in order to eliminate his doubts, but none of them succeeded. Then one evening he sent word to Hadhrat ‘Abdul-Qaadir Jilaani Rahmatullah Alaih, asking him if he could convince the priest of the truth of Ascension. When Hadhrat ‘Abdul-Qaadir Jilaani Rahmatullah Alaih came to the palace he found the priest and the caliph playing chess. As the priest lifted a chess piece to move it, his eyes met those of the Honourable Shaikh. He blinked his eyes… and as he opened them again he found himself drowning in a rapidly running river! He was shouting for help when a young shepherd jumped into the water to save him. As the shepherd held onto him, he realized that he was naked and had been transformed into a young girl! The shepherd pulled her out of the water and asked her whose daughter she was and where she lived. When the priest (in the body of the young girl) mentioned “Baghdad”, the shepherd said that they were then at a distance of a few months journey from that city. The shepherd honoured her and kept her and protected her, but eventually as she had nowhere to go, he married her. They had three children, who grew up. One day as she was washing laundry in the same river where she has appeared many years before, she then slipped and fell in. As she opened her eyes… he found himself sitting across from the caliph, holding the chess piece and still looking up into the eyes of Hadhrat ‘Abdul-Qaadir Jilaani Rahmatullah Alaih, who said to him : “Now, venerable priest, do you still disbelieve?” The priest, unsure of what had happened to him and thinking that perhaps it was just a dream, had responded with the words : “What do you mean?” “Perhaps you would like to see your family?” the saint inquired, and as he opened the door, there stood the shepherd and the three children. Seeing this, the priest and his congregation of about five thousand Christians became Muslim at the hands of Hadhrat ‘Abdul-Qaadir Jilaani Rahmatullah Alaih. SubhaanAllah! groups.yahoo.com/group/sunnisevens/Bushair bin Mahfooz states : "Once my daughter disappeared from our house. I got so worried and went to Hazrat Sayyiduna 'Abdul Qaadir Jilaani RadiAllahu Anh and requested for his help. He told me to go to Karkh and during the night I should form a boundary around myself (Hisar) and sit in a deserted place. While doing this, I should think about him (Ghous Paak) and recite 'BismiAllah'. He told me that during the darkness of the night, groups of Jinns (Jinnaat) will pass by, and that I shouldn't be scared at looking at them despite that their faces will be very strange... He further said that the King of Jinns will later come to me, and ask me about my requirements. When the King of Jinn asks, Ghous Paak said I should say : 'Sheikh 'Abdul Qaadir Jilaani (RadiAllahu anh) has sent me from Baghdad, my requirement is that you search for my daughter.' Hence, I went to the ruins of Karkh and followed the instructions of Huzoor Ghous-e-Aazam. During the silence of the night, horrifying Jinns kept on passing outside my Hisar. The faces of the Jinns were so horrifying that I could not look at them. Eventually, the King of Jinns came on a horse back, there were Jinns surrounding him. He asked my demand from outside the Hisar. I told him that Huzoor Ghous-e-Aazam has sent me to you. As soon as he heard this, he got down from the horse and sat on the ground. The other Jinns too sat outside the Hisar. I narrated the incident of the disappearance of my daughter. He announced amongst all the Jinns, 'who has taken the girl?'. Within moments the Jinns caught a Chinese Jinn and presented him as the culprit. The King of Jinns asked him why he took the girl from the city of the Highest Qutub of the time. While shivering, the Chinese Jinn said, 'Your Highness! After looking at her I fell in love with her.' The King ordered the Chinese Jinn to be beheaded and returned my wonderful daughter to me. I thanked the King of Jinns and said, 'As Allah will! you are an ardent lover of Sayyiduna Ghous Paak!' The King of Jinns then replied, 'I swear by Allah! When Huzoor Ghous Paak looks towards us, all the Jinns start trembling. When Allah nominates a Qutub of the time, then all the Jinns and Humans are ordered to follow him.'" Allahu Akbar!
Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala tells us in His glorious Qur'an Al-Kareem: "As for the friends of Allah, surely no fear shall be upon them, nor shall they grieve". (10:62) [A-la inna awliya'a 'llahi la khawfun 'alai-him, wa la hum yahzanun] All beautiful Praises are due to Allah, who has opened for His saintly friend Hadrat Sayyed Abdul Qader Gillani (Radi ALLAHU Ta'ala anhu) the paths of right guidance, and has caused all kinds of good things and favors to come about at his hands.
May Allah tala bless you brother Mohammed, keep the stories coming.

Subhanallah! Sunni sevens, Fantastic post!
All the Awliya-e-Allah are born to follow the ways, characteristics and qualities of one of the Prophets of Almighty Allah. Ghous-ul-Azam Syed Abdul Qadir Jilani said that he was born to follow The Kings of Prophets Syednaa Muhammad Mustufa (Sallall Allahu Ta'ala alaihi wasalllam) the last Prophet of Almighty Allah.

''My foot is on the neck of all Walis'' When Saiyedena Ghaus ul Azam (Radi Allahu tala anhu) made this declaration, ... the Walis all over the world heard the declaration spiritually and they bent down their necks simultaneously and acknowledged his superiority and leadership. Three hundred Walis and 700 rigal-ul-Ghaib (hidden persons), some of whom used to dwell on earth and used to fly about in the air, bent down their necks. At the time there was not an assembly of the pious jinn in which the matter was not discussed. Deputations from the pious jinn were present in the assembly of Saiyedena Ghaus ul Azam (Radi Allahu tala anhu) and all expressed to the Ghaus their repentance and wished peace to him, before they left the assembly. When Saiyedena Ghaus ul Azam (Radi Allahu tala anhu) made the declaration, ''My foot is on the neck of all the Wali,'' the Walis of the world saw with their spiritual eyes that the flag of the rank of Qutb was planted in front of him, and the Ghaus's crown was placed on his head, and he made the aforesaid declaration, putting on the robe which was sent down by the Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu alaihi wa Sallam) through angels of high rank and which indicated that full powers of working miracles had been granted to him.
