Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu,
I was going to put up a new thread of the Battle of Karbala, but seen as there are so many threads of Muharram I thought i would add it on to brother Jamil's thread rather than confuse people.
10th of Muharram, 61 Hijra. Hadrat Imam Husain (Radi Allahu anhu) was martyred, he recieved injuries and fell down from his conveyance and breathed his last in the state of prostration.
73 Muslims were martyred in the Battle of Karbala, alongside Hadrat Imam Husain (Radi Allahu anhu).
The youngest Martyr of Karbala was Ali Asghar (Radi Allahu anhu).
The Tribe A'ziryah performed the burial rites of the martyrs of Karbala.
Abdullah Bin Hanzala Ansari (Radi Allahu anhu) a compannion of the Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) lost eight sons in the Battle of Karbala while fighting against Yezeed.

It is in Shaami, "That person who cooks good food on the day of Ashurah, will Insha- Allah, gain Barkat from Almighty Allah in his home for the entire year." Commenting on this in "Tafseer Na'eemi", Hazrat Allama Mufti Ahmad Yaar Khan (rahmatullah alaih) writes: "In our country Haleem (kichra) is cooked because it contain all types of grains and meat, through which we have hope that their will be barkat in the grain for the entire year. In certain narrations, it has been stated that the day on which the Ark of Hazrat Nooh (alaihis salaam) came onto land, the inhabitants of the Ark disembarked and gathered all types of grain and cooked it into Haleem (Kichra)."

Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu. Thank you brother, for answering my question which I was going to ask , if any body knew the significance to making Kichra on the 10th of Muharram. My mum has always done it since I can remember, and I have followed in my mothers footsteps. your detailed description is very helpful as now I can answer my children when they ever ask me.
