My husband is a Muslim and I'm not. He doesn't drink alcohol, but uses cannabis, which I think is worse. Us Christians are taught "be not filled with wine....but be filled with the Holy Spirit." We are taught alcohol, cigarettes, drugs are all wrong and unholy. That they are things Satan uses to destroy us. I believe the Quran also states that intoxicants are an abomination of Satan's handiwork and that this, gambling, etc should be shunned so that we may prosper. Am I correct in that? What would you advise me to tell my husband to stop him using drugs? Surely it is worse for him to do that than to use alcohol?

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam Thank you for your question in relation to your husband using cannabis. First of all, I would like to express that in Islam, cannabis is forbidden. It is regarded as haram, in the same sense that alcohol is haram alogwith other drugs. Anything which intoxicates a person so far as it knocks him senseless, or erases his senses, in that he does not relaise what kind of act he is about to perform or commit, is regared as forbidden. The best thing that you should try and tell your husband, is that Islam does not teach us that we should use substances which intoxicate the mind and spirit, but should use all those remedies which are useful for the mind, and spirit. For example, to use the love of God, His Messengers, His saints, His chosen people, and the common people around the world. Once this has been explained to him, he will realise the importance of not using the intoxicants, and will realise the importance of what to do. Then to explain to him the importance of his religion, what it requires, what the rules are, as quoted above, what lies within the principles, will encourage him to leave what is bad, and perform what is good. Both of you can share this explanation, share the knowledge behind it, act upon it's principle, and make your worldly life worthwile, as well as your life after death, instead of breaking the principles to cause uncertain death. Once he has taken heed of the information given above, Allah the Almighty will open the doors to what is true to both of you, and you will both be able to live lives how, and why, that have been prescribed. May Allah the Almighty guide, and help you in this matter, for the betterment of the pair of you. Jazak'allah for your question. Wallahu A'lamu BiththawaabM. Waseem Ashrafi
