Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim,

The
coloured contact lens question is not a difficult one. If it's looked at from the prospective that why is one wearing coloured contact lenses or if the person wearing them has bad vision. Then to be able to see would not be determined by whether it was haraam or halaal to wear them or not. I think it would be a more medical cause, rather than a fashionable cause.
Then one could argue that why do they have to be coloured, as colour may attract the opposite sex ? Then this boils down to the
intention of the person wearing them. Whether, he or she is wearing them to attract people, or to gain a better sight.
Some people may have a wrong intention, of wearing green/blue contact lenses. This problem can be solved by realising that in Islam the colour green has a good significance. Just look at the creation of the Almighty, which is mostly green. The trees, the land which is full, the Dome of the Prophet (peace be upon Him), some scripts of the Noble Qur'an al karim, the dress of the pious, and even some of the coverings of the graves of the saints (awliya'). And it is known amongsts hakims, that the more you look at the colour green the more benefit your eyes recieve. Especially when you hear the name 'Muhammad'
Salla Allahu ta'ala'alayhi wa Sallam, to kiss your thumbnails and to touch your eyes, carries numerous benefits, especially as a remedy (shifa') for the eyes. Similarly, to recite the Qur'an al karim, to go out in the way of Allah
Subhanahu wa Ta'ala every morning and evening, to eat the correct food, to lower your gaze at all times, and to refrain from seeing what is bad, and encouraging to see what is good, are all contributors to a healthy sight, and lifestyle. Who would then need green or blue contact lenses when all the above can easily be followed. Especially in this day and age, when evils tend to confront our intentions?
I would not say that it would be haraam, in case of the former. As anything which is haraam, must be clearly stated in text, by the Qur'an al karim and Hadith. However, one could say that it was not permissable, as in case of husband and wife, then there is no limit of how much zinah (beauty), they provide for each other, so long as it is permissable.
In the case of gaining better sight, then this is permissable, as your body has a right over you just as your parents, family and children have rights over you.
In cases of
braces, then so far as i know, there is nothing wrong with wearing them, as this could be a medical reason, prevention of which could lead to abnormal teeth. Braces are normally worn to straighten the teeth, as opposed to place gaps between teeth, which is disallowed. To wear braces, however, I assume that some form of consultation with the dentist must have taken place, as it would be very unfair to assert that this was haraam, when in reality, there may exist cases that are medically genuine, as opposed to fashion.
The issue about
having long hair, is that as long as the hair reaches to the ear lobes, or slightly below when they are long, then normally, this is the Sunnah lenghth which is required of a Muslim. Certain people will go to extremes and keep very long hair, and use the excuse of it as being sunnah, such people should not be allowed to use this excuse to claim it is sunnah, particularly when they are growing hair to attract the opposite sex, or do not even adhere to their five times daily prayer, yet claim to be one of those who preserve the sunnah.
The back of the hair should however be a 'square cut', which is straight from the back, and all the hair should be one-lenghth, as the beloved Messenger of Allah
Salla Allahu ta'ala'alayhi wa Sallam, had hair of different lenghths at different times, but not necessarily excessive.
May Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala keep us all firm upon the Sunnah of His Most Beloved (Peace and Blessings upon Him).M. Waseem Ashrafi
