Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem ASALATU WASALAMU ALAYKA YA RASULLALLAH Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam
Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
Most respected Imam may Allah keep accept your efforts. Imam saheb I've once heard someone talking about a masla concerning wudho. The masla was that one can, during wudho, wash his/her feet with socks on when certain conditions apply. One of the conditions was that this masla applies when it is very very cold. What is true of this Imam Sahib? I've lived most of my life in the tropics but now I'm in a country which has winter so maybe I could make use of this masla.
Jazakallahu khayran Imam saheb. May Allah give us knowlegde. Wassalamu 'alaykum

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam Jazak'allah for your question. There is no condition that is contrary to the Qur'an al Kareem which can be applied in wearing socks and washing the feet, when the Qur'an al kareem has already stipulated the four obligations ( fara'id) of ablution ( wudhu). The Qur'an al kareem states : 'faqsilu wujuhakum, wa aydyakum ilal marafiki wamsahu bi ru'usikum wa arjulakum ilal ka'bayn' 'And wash your faces, and your arms upto the elbows, and wipe your heads, and wash your feet upto the ankles'
[al Qur'an 5:6] The four actions stated are fard, otherwise known as the four fard of wudhu. They are; washing the face, washing the arms, the wiping of the head, and washing the feet. There is no mention of socks, or the wiping over socks, as a substitute for washing the feet. This practice of wiping the socks instead of washing the feet, is an innovation, and a misinterpretation of what the Qur'an al kareem has stated, and should be prevented, even if the water maybe very cold. If you meant to say ''leather socks'' - which are known as khuffs, then these neednt be washed as merely wiping them with your palm would suffice, ( masah). The wearing of khuffs is a tradition of the Beloved Messenger of Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam. May Allah the Almighty prevent all of us from misinterpreatations, and modern day issues, that may prevent us from carrying out our day to day Islamic duties. Amin.Wallahu A'lamu BiththawaabM.
