Bismillahir Rahmaanir Rahim Wa’laykum 'as-Salaam wa rahma tullahi wa barakaatuhu, During wudu’ talking should be put to the side. Wudu’ is an ‘ibaadah and talking is not permitted during such an action as it renders the action to be disliked. Therefore it is disliked for people to talk during wudu’ especially if it concerns worldly affairs. It is said that when one performs wudu’, four angels of mercy stand at either directions of the person performing the wudu’, with a cloth. They supplicate for the person performing the wudu’. When he talks, one of them lets go of the sheet and ascends to his original place. When he talks again, another angel lets go of the material, and if he talks again, he is deprived of yet another angel making supplication for he. To the extent that if one talks so much, then one-by-one all four angels leave him until there is no angels with him, who otherwise would have been supplicating for him, for the mercy of Allah. Some scholars have gone as far as to say that one should not even reply to the greeting (salaam) which one Muslim gives another, during the performance of wudu’. Wallahu a’lamu bithawaab.
