Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
Could you please tell me what the Iddat period is for a woman who is proceeding with a Khula divorce in which the marriage was never consummated?

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa SallamJazak'allah for your valued question. It is normally a three month iddat period for a woman who has proceeded with a khul'a divorce, even though the marriage was never consummated. The Qur'an al kareem states: 'Wal mutallaqatu yatarabbasna bi anfusi hinna thalathata quru''
'And the divorced women shall remain in waiting for three iddats' This is the general rule which is applied to your question. May Allah the Almighty give us all the tawfiq to say that, which is true. (Amin)Wallahu A'lamu BiththawaabM. Waseem Ashrafi
