Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem ASALATU WASALAMU ALAYKA YA RASULLALLAH Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam
Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
Most respected imam, may Allah accept your efforts... Imam saheb... after birth, is it permissable for a mother to recite the adaan and iqaamah in the baby's right and left ear? Or can this only be done by Muslim men? Can you please also state the sunnah way to perform this? And in which time period does this have to be done after the birth of the baby... I've heard that it has to be done within one day after the birth, is this correct?
wassalamu 'alaykum

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam If there is no man present, and it is difficult to get hold of an Imam or a shaykh, or where the husband is not present at the time of the birth of the child, then it is permissable for the woman to recite the adhan and iqamah in the ears of the newborn child. The lenghth of time for the iqamah and the adhan to be said is anytime from straight after the birth of the child, although it should not be delayed for too long. The sunna way of reciting the adhan and the iqamah in the ears of the baby, is to hold the baby and simply recite the adhan in the left ear, and the iqamah in the right ear. The adhan is as follows: Allahu akbar Allahu akbar, Ash'hadu al la ilahah illallah, As'hadu al la ilaha illallah Ash'hadu anna Muhammadur rasulullah, Ash'hadu anna Muhammadur Rasulallah, Hayya 'alas salah, Hayya 'alas salah, Hayya 'alal falah, Hayya 'alal falah Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar, La ilaha Illalah The iqamah is exactly the same as the adhan except, there are the following additions: Qad qamatis salah Qad qamatis salah, and that is to be recited after 'Hayya 'alal falah, Hayya 'alal falah' and then continue the iqamah as normal to the end. I am terribly sorry for the delay it has taken me in answering your question. May Allah the Almighty Forgive us all, and may we forgive one another. (Amin). Jazak'allah for your question. Wallahu A'lamu BiththawaabM. Waseem Ashrafi
