Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
Maulana you will know of Owais Raza Qadri who prays beutiful naats but i have learnt that it is not allowed to have zikr of Allah in these naats in the background. Does this mean that we cannot play any of his cd's ?

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuPraise be to Allah, who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon Our Last Messenger, the Most Beloved Prophet of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) Jazak'Allah for your question. The format of dhikr being recited while the main theme is a na'at, has been a more modern practice, which has come into being much more recently. It is not a traditional method, as more traditionalists may object to this form of na'at. I personally know a few scholars who would object to a person who would pray a na'at, if for example, he did not have a beard according to the Sunnah of the Last Messenger of Islam ( Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam). Similarly if a person who was not in the state of ablution, whilst praying a na'at, or where a really good poetry was being recited unaccording to the proper etiquette, or manner, that a na'at should really be adhered to. However, to enhance the interest towards na'at, for the common people, and to stop them from listening to 'Bollywood' songs, or to prevent them from listening to 'English' songs, this method still is far more better. It constitutes a genuine interest whereas those na'ats which do not have a 'daff', or do not have a form of 'dhikr' in the background, still have their own particular value. The object of listening to na'at, is for the praise, excellences and blessings of Allah upon The last Messenger of Islam Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam), and upon ourselves, which also is a form of dhikr. May Allah the Almighty engage our listening for His pleasure, and may He keep our listening away from worldly noises.Wallahu Alamu BitththawaabM. Waseem Ashrafi
