Salam,
To keep with demand of beef, chicken etc, animal are now raised in very unhumane ways. They are confined to tight spaces where they are not allowed to move around freely. They are fed diets that are high in corn, antibiotics and growth hormones so they grow faster and therefore slaughtered quicker. For example, cows are fed corn which is actually very unhealthy for them and if they continue eating it, would die early but they are usually slaughtered before that.
With the rate of diseases like cancer, etc rising in people in USA and England, I believe that some of the causes are due to the meat we eat. No amont of draining the blood of the animal can prevent those pesticides, chemicals etc to leaving the animal.
My wife and I have been trying to buy organic foods for a few years now. The only thing we have not done is gone with Organic meat. The halal meat shops in our area do not know how the animals are raised. When I did a bit more searching, these cows that are slaughtered by halal butchers are definitely not free range animals.
I found a farm that raises all their animals free range; cows, chicken and goat. They are not fed any antibotics etc. When they slaughter the animal, the animals are allowed to bleed completed. They have even invited us to vist their ranch to witness this. They are familiar with halal meat but they don't have a muslim butcher but their practices are similar to halal practices.
So my question is, is this meat halal? If we were to say Bismillah before we eat it, would that be sufficient?
