Well musaafir hasnt drunk coke for the last few years due to very strong possible use of Alcohol in the manufacturing process of coca cola. I strongly(very strongly)believe that there is very small levels of alcohol present in coca cola drink. Although i cannot say haraam on this hunch (also a bit of research too) alone,so do what your heart tells you. Being suitable for Vegetarians would not cover any alcohol content in it anyway, since alcohol is not a meat product.

ASALATU WASALAMU ALAYKA YA RASULLALLAH Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa SallamJazakAllah for the prompt reply brother musaafir, I know coke was banned in our homes many years ago as we were told it was haraam because of alcohol content etc and many made enquiries and were told it was halal. InshAllah I shall be contacting coke cola for further clarification, like they say if in doubt best to avoid so my coke cans can go in the pantry until I am for 100% sure. Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
As promised I contacted Coca Cola and this is the reply they sent me,
Dear Consumer ,
Thank you for contacting us in connection with the presence of alcohol and animal derived products in our beverages.
In the manufacture of Coca-Cola, alcohol is not added as an ingredient and no fermentation takes place. Government and health authorities in nearly 200 countries, which have consistently recognised the beverage Coca-Cola as a non-alcoholic product, rigorously regulate the ingredients and manufacturing process used in the production of Coca-Cola. This includes countries where Islam is the major religion. All products of Coca-Cola Great Britain are non-alcoholic except for 'Schweppes' Lemonade Shandy, which contains 0.5% alcohol.
Please find enclosed a list of the products of Coca-Cola Great Britain that do NOT contain ingredients derived from mammals or poultry. Since some practising vegetarians avoid fish products as well, it is important to note that some of the products listed below contain minute traces of fish gelatin, which is used as a stabiliser for beta-carotene colour. These products are:
'Lilt' pineapple & grapefruit (and Lilt Z) 'Kia-Ora' Orange Squash (and no added sugar) 'Minute Maid'Orange with Passion Fruit 'Schweppes' Slimline Orange Crush 'Schweppes' Deuce Orange and Guava 'Relentless' Inferno
Beta-Carotene is a substance that occurs naturally in abundance in fruits and vegetables. It is what gives the yellow-orange fruits and vegetables their colour.
All products are labelled in full compliance with U.K. food labelling requirements.
I would like to thank you for taking the time and trouble to contact us with your concerns and hope that they are allayed.
Yours sincerely,
Sarah McCarty Consumer Information Centre
Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu

In the manufacture of Coca-Cola, alcohol is not added as an ingredient and no fermentation takes place. Very economical with truth if you ask me. Kola leaf extract is used( this is well known and coca cola still do not deny its use) which is extracted using Alcohol. As is vanilla extract (which is definately extracted using alcohol). Fact is that coca cola is still refusing to divulge which flavourings or secret ingredients they use and the above are thought strongly to be included in the flavourings(almost certain). Ask them to say "yes" or "no" in regards to vanilla and cola leaf usage in flavourings ,i dare anyone! You will not get a straight answer, why? When they say no alcohol is added nor any fermentation takes place then that is true, but it does not mean the flavourings that are added are not manufactured (extracted) using alcohol. Despite everything i do NOT say its haraam due to not knowing for sure, but advice caution. I actually do drink mecca cola(its not as good but you get used to it).

lets hope they prove brother musafir wrong by replying Assalaam Alaikum It would actually be good if i was proved wrong,so i that could start drinking the stuf too(i do miss it),even though it triggers my Asthma Although they have to categorically state that no kola leaf or vanilla extracts are used,in other words state that no product is used which itself is originally produced by using Alcohol.
