Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam Sajdah-e-sawv, is normally performed at the end of the salah, providing the number of rak'ahs have been completed. For example, 2 for Fajr, 4 for Zuhr, 4 for Asr, etc. In the event where the number of rak'ahs have increased or decreased, then you normally have to make them up if they have decreased, but if they have increased, then you have to add 2 rak'ahs in the event of odd number salah, or add 2 in the event of even number rak'ahs. For example, if you read 4 rak'ahs for Maghrib, then you need to make it 5 rak'ahs, before sajdah-e-sawv is to be performed, as Maghrib has an odd number of rak'ahs (3). Similarly, if you prayed 2 rakahs for Zuhr, Asr, or Isha', thinking you had prayed 4, then you must add 2, before sajdah-e-sawv can be performed. If you prayed 5, then you must add 1 rakah more, before sajdah-e-sawv can be performed. The method is that once you have identified how many rak'ahs you have prayed, and ammended it accordingly, by adding the odd or even number of rak'ahs, (as described above), then in the last 'tashah'hud' (sitting position), when you say salam to the right, you must say 'Allahu-Akbar', and go back down into sajdah, say the tasbih 3 times, come back up, to perform another sajdah, making it 2, (saying the tasbih in both sajdah's)and then go back into the sitting position (tashah'hud), pray the 'atahiyyat', and everything after it (Durud, du'a, and another du'a),and complete your salah as per normal. This would have rectified any mistakes that you had made, regarding the number of rak'ahs. This is the brief description of how sajdah sawv is to be performed, in the event of mistake. Please do not hesitate to post again if in doubt. May Allah the Almighty give us all the tawfiq to perform his 'Ibadah, in the manner prescribed by His Beloved Messenger Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam. (Amin) Jazak'allah for your question. Wallahu A'lamu BiththawaabM. Waseem Ashrafi
