assalamu alaikum,
If mr x backbited mr y in the absence of mr y , does mr y get reward as he is not aware of what has been said in his absence?
i heard that when one backbites one looses a good deed ( due to committing a sin) and the victim gets the deed which one lost which is written as a good deed for the victim?
is there nay evidence from quran/hadith?
wasalaam

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam What you have stated is quiet true. If a person backbites someone else, the good deeds of the backbiter go to the person who had been backbited. There are many verses of the Qur'an relating to backbiting, and it is from these that such laws have come into existence. The same applies to the various ahadith, which have come into existence relating to backbiting. The Qur'an states: 'la'nat Allahi 'alal kadhibin' 'The wrath of Allah the Almighty be upon the liars' Here the word liars refers to those people who tell lies whether it is to do with the religion, or whether it is not. Backbiting is also a form of lying therefore this verse would apply to that particular category. Jazak'allah for your question. Wallahu A'lamu BiththawaabM. Waseem Ashrafi
